  • Family-run dairy farm and fishery with views over The Roaches
  • Short drive to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and Tittesworth Water
  • On-site farm shop and farm animals; 10 minutes' walk to two local pubs
Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop and light up a barbecue (as long as it's kept off the grass). If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk way in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great view

Disliked: Amenities are not great, and the area surrounding the pond was having work done, which meant time ground was uneven. The shop is handy, however skip buying the logs as they were wet and rotten.

Liked: Nice view

Disliked: Whole site was waterlogged, if I had known this before hand I wouldn’t have driven all the way there. Had to leave early.

From the manager: Apologies, but with all the rain and storm Kathleen to deal with it has made it very difficult for the field as we do not have sufficient enough dry weather to get it sorted - we have now temporarily closed the field and just allowing campervans on our small section of hardstanding

Liked: Beautiful views Nice area Friendly staff/owners Farm shop Lovely pub not too far away Would be beautiful in summer when the ground is dry

Disliked: Muddy fields meant that we couldn’t park our car next to our tent. That is no fault of the owners though! Previous bad weather had made the site quite boggy so we got in a terrible mess all weekend. Again, that’s no fault of the owners and they told us that they’re working on making drainage for the site which was nice to see them doing something about it. Probably would suit couples better rather than families with young children.

From the manager: Thank you for your review - I'm glad you liked our little site despite the weather, it is unfortunate that with the weather as it is and has been all over the winter a lot of campsites are struggling at the moment all over the country - lets hope for a better Summer this year

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely campsite with good facilities, nice shop on site and very friendly owner. Very spacious and beautiful views, unfortunately the weather has been awful so the pitches where very muddy but they were doing everything possible to try and make the situation better for everyone.

Disliked: The weather but that can't be helped!

Liked: Family that runs this business we’re really polite and welcoming, toilets were relatively clean. Location beautiful, absolutely stunning and by far the best thing.

Disliked: When we turned up we were told roughly where to park (it’s a large open space all grass area, with a fishing lake to one side) . We were informed that it was very boggy as per rain. When we looked for a pitch it was evident there was only a small area in which our van would make it due to how bogged down the field was. We tried a couple of spaces but the wheels kept spinning. We were told it was because of rain but I’m guessing due to the location and time of year that this gets a lot worse. The grass was also knee length and we had to flatten areas to be able to put some outdoor furniture down. I know it’s a working farm but the smell was very strong of cow manure which was unavoidable due to us only being able to park next to the cow shed, also the machinery was working till late over 8pm - a dark October evening when the kids were settling wasn’t ideal. Another couple struggled with getting off the site and needed us and several people to push them out. I do think it’s very overpriced as this is more of an eco site. Pitches were very un level too

From the manager: Hello there, as a family we are so sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. even though we are in a beautiful part of the country is does come with it down sides as to when it rains the ground does become wet. When we can get onto the ground we do maintain this every week if we are free of campers for a couple of hours to mow the grass down to size, but due to bad weather if we got on the ground we would make a mess . We appreciated you know were a working farm but unfortunately this does come as a 24/7 operation which means we does have to sometimes work into the night dependant on what else needs to be done during the day. we hope to see you again during summer when we have better weather to see the potential of our campsite & surrounding areas to us.
