A warm northern welcome awaits all comers at Lebberston Caravan Park, a multi-award-winning park set in stunning countryside 15 minutes’ drive from Scarborough on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Edging the limestone hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, it’s a scenic spot for a peaceful and relaxing break – yet you can be on Filey Beach within 10 minutes’ drive. After a busy day building sandcastles or splashing around on the beach, let your children burn off any remaining energy on the extensive grassy area, where there are goal posts available for a kick around. The landscaped site has neat grass and hardstanding pitches of varying sizes – something to suit every budget – and facilities include three centrally heated shower blocks with loos, wash basins, individual wash cubicles and hot showers, as well as thoughtful extras like shaving points and hair dryers. In case there are any accidents or spillages while you’re on site, washing machines and tumble driers are free to use, and there’s also an iron in the laundry area. Forgotten something? No worries, chances are you’ll find it for sale in the on-site shop – where there’s bags of visitor information if you need a bit of inspiration for days out.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: I don't normally bother with reviews and I'll be as honest as I can be and speak solely as we found. 4 nights in a campervan with awning. Novices, originally booked on a grass pitch, but they rang to say they were unfit and so they were moving us onto a hardstanding which we approached. Nice looking clean park. Well placed. Good facilities.

Disliked: The pitch they moved us to was shocking. Inadequate width in view of the awning, which they knew about as we had paid the extra to have it, and consisted of randomly placed 2x2 flags for a touring caravan, some of these were broken and formed tripping hazards. This meant it was impossible to put the van anywhere without the awning going on top of the flags which meant you clearly couldn't sleep without the chance of being on top of a one, potentially sticking in your back. No choice but to park to the extremity and put the awning on the wet muddy grass which meant traipsing all that into the living area and van. No one available to speak to before we pitched even though it said they were contactable so we had no choice. Rang in the morning...no answer...left voicemail....to press still no response. Spoke to the shop assistant and while I accept she said she had no authority to move us, she could have contacted their head office which turned out to be down the road instead of me doing it, as far as I was concerned she represented the company as she wore a Lebberston Camping embroidered t-shirt. Eventually some chap answered, said it was the manager's day off and he'd come to have a look. Seemed pleasant enough but clearly didn't see an issue and said "you booked grass and you're on grass" but the fact was they didn't want us using the grass. He said we could move if we wanted and shoved us on virtually the same size pitch, albeit without the flags, with the result meaning the awning was still verging on the grass which as you can guess got churned up and again ended up inside. I accept camping/campervaning in wet cold weather is challenging for most let alone newbies but a bit of help or understanding would have taken the edge of it. Maybe complete different experience in summer but like I said above, I can only speak as I found. The only other thing I'd say is the shower cubicles are too shallow and whilst waiting for them to heat up your stood in a small bit between the door and curtain. Unfortunately they put a stool in there which uses space, stops the door from opening without knocking it into the curtain and because the curtains are short everything ends up with through. Why don't vendors actually try these things themselves as they would the see their shortcomings?

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Clean well spaced out site. Good shower and toilet facilities.

Disliked: We were told we couldn’t ride our motor bike out of site and we’re informed we’d have to push it up hill to get onto road My husband who is sixty and has a health condition found this very upsetting and difficult. We were told it was stated in terms and conditions but not on the ones we were sent via pitch up. Lady was polite and apologetic but it spoilt our stay and will not be able to return due to this rule.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Very well kept site with pristine facilities. We were particularly impressed on arrival when our caravan was positioned and set up for us by the owner. All we had to do was wait for a few minutes while he did it ! Premium service and very much appreciated. This is a friendly site with large well kept pitches. Plenty of room for children to play on the large grassed area. Lovely shady dog walking area with a secure part where you can let your dog off the lead. Really enjoyed our stay and will happily return.

Disliked: WiFi a bit intermittent

Local attractions

You’ll certainly not have any trouble keeping the kids occupied. Head for the sandy beach in Bridlington (20 minutes’ drive), backed by amusement arcades, mini-golf courses and a swathe of pubs and cafés. For a more sedate day at the seaside, pack a picnic and walk along five-mile Filey Beach (10 minutes) and find a sheltered spot under the cliffs at Filey Brigg to sit and watch the waves. As well as the classic beach-side amusements on South Bay, Scarborough (15 minutes) has plenty of other family-friendly attractions: make a start in the wave pool at Alpamare UK waterpark, and progress on to the walk-through aquarium and penguin pool at SEA LIFE Scarborough. Wind up exploring the ramparts and 12th-century Great Tower at Scarborough Castle, standing on a headland with exceptional views over the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Turning inland, the chalk landscapes of the Yorkshire Wolds have walking and biking opportunities aplenty. Hike sections of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, or follow the circular Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route to visit historic Beverley Minster (three hours by bike) and the speciality delis in the foodie capital of Malton (one hour 50 minutes).
