  • Quiet and rural site a mile and a half from Cowes
  • Fully-equipped holiday homes with outdoor decking
  • Gurnard and Thurness beaches within walking distance
Feeling under the weather? Beneath a cloud of gloom? It's simple to feel sunny-natured on the Isle of Wight, home to plenty of sandy stretches of beach and so nicely compact so that wherever you bunk down on, all the many (many) island attractions will be no more than half an hour away from your pitch. Many campers come to Cowes when going Wightwards, the island’s main port and the place where the famous regatta Cowes Week is held each August. This is also where canny islandgoers will find Sunnycott Caravan Park, a quiet and rural family-run site with self-catering caravans, all set out with plenty of space between for maximum privacy. The park's about a mile and a half from Cowes, with Gurnard and Thurness beaches within walking distance and sailing, mountain bike hire and horse riding all easy to hand nearby. Stays here are in fully-equipped holiday homes with outdoor decking and flatscreen TV. The park has wifi, 24 hour laundry facilities and a shop.

Local attractions

Windsurfing, sailing, paragliding, festivals, theme parks… pretty much everything under the sun is handy on the Isle of Wight, and there’s an extensive bus service for visitors who don’t want to take their car around. One should of course start off at the yachting centre of Cowes – yachters from all over the world descend on at the start of August each year for famous Cowes Week; if you’re here at any other time of the year, there are yachty events all year round including regattas, club racing and rallies. Take the chain ferry or floating bridge over the River Medina to East Cowes too – it’s free for foot passengers and cyclists. Elsewhere, Queen Vicky’s old pad and seaside palace Osborne House is less than three miles from Sunnycott – she and the brood loved the Isle of Wight and Osborne House is where she died in 1901. Natch the beach will be hit if the sun’s shining – Shanklin and Sandown should hit the spot as well as nearby Thorness and Gurnard – and there are two theme parks nearby at Blackgang Chine and the Robin Hill theme park. The ‘Garden Isle’ also has plants and wildlife aplenty, as well as several animal-themed family days out: take the nippers along to the Isle of Wight Zoo, the Amazon World Zoo Park or the Owl and Monkey Haven.
