  • Well-equipped family safari tents on a quiet Cornwall family farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Looe and its beach; half an hour to Eden Project
  • Private hot tub, ensuite bathroom and kitchen for each tent
Peaceful farm stays come with something of a luxury edge for guests at Feather Down Farm - Gwel Teg, where comfy family-sized safari tents have been set up on the fringes of a Cornwall family farm. The Dennis family have been happily settled here for more than 35 years, living alongside a herd of 400 dairy cows, a smaller herd of beef cattle and a flock of sheep. They’re now inviting glamping guests to come along and join them to share in the quiet rural atmosphere and soak up the lovely views all around in this part of southern Cornwall. The idea at this site is to mix up a bit of comfort and a bit of adventure – so you’ll have proper beds, an ensuite bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen in your tent, but you’ll have to live without wifi for a while (don’t worry, there’s usually plenty of entertainment coming from the neighbouring fields and visiting wildlife). Safari tents here look out over a lovely peaceful meadow, and are best viewed either from the picnic table (laden with snacks and drinks from the farm shop five minutes’ drive away) or the warm waters of your private hot tub. When it’s time to retreat indoors, you can keep everything cosy by lighting the woodburning stove (with firewood provided) and eat meals under the light of the chandelier at your dining table or flop on the comfy sofa. A spacious play area and lots of animals to meet should give kids something to do while on site; for days out, you might look to the coast for beach days in Looe, strolls around pretty fishing villages like Fowey or trips to the Eden Project.

Local attractions

You can’t possibly come to Cornwall without going to the coast, can you? A good place to start is in Looe (10 minutes’ drive), which has a sandy beach, watersports shops for paddleboard and kayak hire and a harbour where you can join speedboat or glass-bottom boat tours. For a different way to arrive, drive to the Looe Valley Line station at Causeland (10 minutes) and head down on a pretty riverside rail journey. The South West Coast Path is of course, always worth a wander too – and there are lots of little villages around to visit, including Polperro (25 minutes) and Fowey (40 minutes). Looking inland, there are adventures to be had at Adrenalin Quarry (10 minutes), exotic animals to meet at Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary (20 minutes) and the fabulous attraction of the Eden Project (half an hour), where you can experience rainforest life and zoom down the zipwires.
