We are a place where sustainability comes first and where we aim to make life a bit simpler. Loveland Farm is a creative place where people come to relax in an environment that is fun and at one with the outdoors. We have developed the campsite using green technologies: our compost toilets were voted among the best compost loos by readers of Permaculture magazine. The site is small - 16 pitches in total with plenty of space. In the high season we open up the meadow so you can experience a wild camping experience too.

Route directions

Take the M5 south towards Exeter and leave at Junction 27, signposted Barnstaple. Take the third exit for the A361; follow this road to Barnstaple. When you reach Barnstaple continue over the three roundabouts, following the signs for the A39 to Bideford. This will bring you onto the 'Atlantic Highway'. Follow this for 20 miles (you will go past Bideford continuing towards Bude), and just after the Clovelly cross roundabout (there's an old petrol station on your left) take the first right, signposted Hartland (B3248). Follow this road for two miles and you will come to a sharp left-hand bend, following the signs for Hartland Point and Hartland Lighthouse. You'll reach the country roads...you're close...follow this road until you reach the crossroad, take a right and continue to follow the signs to Hartland Point. About half a mile down this road you will see a sign for Loveland Farm and Gawlish farm on your right-hand side. Take this right-hand exit and we are 500m up the road.

Local attractions

The Hartland Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with plenty to explore in and around the Hartland coast as well as a little further afield and throughout north Devon. We've put together a list of things available to see and do in the surrounding area. Below are our top five outdoor activities... Surfing The surf in North Devon is great with popular beaches such as Woolacombe, Bude, Braunton and Westward Ho! just a few miles up the coast. There's loads of great surf schools in the area: check out Big Blue Surf School in Bude for a session with Jon Price, coach to the British surfing team. If you just want to get out there visit EyeballHQ Surfcheck for live webcams, tide times and daily weather conditions for the entire north Devon Coast. Tarka Trail The Tarka Trail runs for 180 miles from Barnstaple to Bideford. You can walk or cycle the trail which is also connected to the National Cycle Network’s Devon Coast to Coast Path running all the way down to Plymouth on the south coast. We’ve explored many parts of the path as you can join the route at any point. Enjoy the beautiful sea views at any time of year. Lundy Island Lying just off the coast and visible from the Hartland Peninsula, Lundy is a small island inhabited by just 28 people. With some of the world's most unique flora and fauna, the island was England's first Marine Conservation Zone and is managed by the Landmark Trust with a fee of £5 upon admission. Accessible by boat from Clovelly (visit Clovelly Charters for more info) and Bideford (visit MS Oldenburg), there are also helicopter flights available during the winter months. Boats leave daily and cost around £35 for a day return. Clovelly The historic fishing village of Clovelly is within steep cliffs and only accessible by foot. The cobbled high street is famed for its donkeys which are used to transport goods up to the residents' houses and local businesses. The traffic-free village centre is rich in maritime history and has been connected with Charles Kingsley, Turner and even the Spanish Armada. Just five miles from Loveland and open throughout the year, you can explore the idyllic village and waterfall; look out for regular festivals which happen throughout the year. Climbing The coastline offers plenty of challenging climbs for competent climbers but if you fancy giving it a try you can visit the Ultimate Adventure Centre at Abbotsham, Bideford, offering climbing, coasteering, kayaking, surfing and mountain boarding. A selection of indoor activities are also at your fingertips with great activity/adventure parks for the kids such as: The Milky Way: The Milky Way Adventure Park offers loads for kids in all weather. Featuring Devon's tallest roller-coaster and indoor play area, there's also archery, golf and laser target shooting as well as daily bird of prey shows. The park is situated just 6 miles north of Loveland along the A39. The Big Sheep: Another great attraction no matter what the weather - from high ropes and mountain boarding to lamb feeding, sheep shearing and the daily Big Sheep Show. For the adults there's an on-site brewery where you can sample the local ale and even take a keg home with you. Hartland Abbey is a wonderful stately home with beautiful gardens and is a must visit for all.
