  • 95-acre park in one of the nine glens of Antrim
  • Views towards Rathlin Island, Islay and the Mull of Kintyre
  • Traditional music, bar, restaurant and fly fishing
More glens? Yes please. You’ll be belting out the lyrics of Green Glens of Antrim as soon as you set eyes on this park, set in an Area of Outstanding Beauty in one of the nine Antrim glens. Glenmore Caravan and Camping Park is between Ballintoy and Ballycastle, in prime position for some of the most eye-watering scenery in the country – you might be tempted to say ‘in the world’ when you see it… Glenmore is a whopper of a park at 95 acres and there are several different pitching areas available, so you can pitch up with the kids or hide away with your other half in a romantic corner to take in the viewpoints across to Rathlin Island, the Mull of Kintyre or Islay. Newbies are well catered for: just ask the very friendly owners if you need help with your van or tent or how to pick something to do from the vast range of activities in the area if you’re using the park as your touristy base at any time of the year. Northern Ireland is great for fishing but anglers won’t have to go too far with the fly fishing lake right on site stocked with brown and rainbow trout, before trying some champ in the restaurant and settling in for the night in the Glenmore bar. If you're new to fly fishing, lessons are available and guests can hire rods. If your family or suffering other half are threatening divorce as you sing Green Glens of Antrim yet again, they’ll be easily pacified: the two young women resident at the park are members of the traditional Irish band Tir na Og and can usually be persuaded to give a few songs and tunes any night. Harmony reigns…

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Everything! No view as behind a bank Shower and toilet block awful, not cleaned, bins not emptied, toilet rolls not replenished Paid £1 for 6 minutes of lukewarm water Muddy paths which got paddled into toilet and shower block Paid upfront so no going back and most expensive compared with other campsites on this holiday Pub restaurant not open Such a shame as it’s location promised so much more I wouldn’t think you’d want your named associated with it

From the manager: In answer to your review you come from England where most of the sites charge £2 for a shower we charge £1 for six minutes and the charge is there so that everyone on the site gets a chance to use the showers. Because children use the showers and also the law states that showers must not be over 40c our shower are set at that as should all other campsites, as for where you parked your dirty van you had a choice of other areas most with lake views, the shower are not as you describe them and even have huge mats at the entrance, if everything was as you say ? Why did you stay 3 nights you never complained once and as for the bar we stop serving at 10.30 so that the noise level is kept to a minimum after 11pm to fit in with our rules you can't arrive at the bar at 2 minutes before closing hoping to stay to midnight, Regards Glenmore

Facilities were clean and easily accessible. Our pitch was just brill

Non-electric grass tent pitch (six person)

Liked: Bar on site, handy for Antrim Coast attractions, good views of surrounding countryside.

Disliked: Not really a fair test when we stayed as the weather was awful and had been for weeks, but the camping field was really boggy and muddy and our car was struggling to get up the slope to the exit. There was a new toilet and shower block in development so things will improve dramatically for next season, but when we stayed it was a long walk in the pouring rain from the tent to the facilities.

From the manager: Not many campsites in this area take tents we the owners loved camping in the past with our children we are struggling with the elements or the modern climate to give you the best experience we can, please give us a chance to make your experience enjoyable we know you are struggling with the elements this year and we will continue to try and make your stay and experience enjoyable so please give us an other chance as we are trying to fulfill your camping experience to your expectations. Best Regards John & Valerie.

Liked: The location, the price. Access to all the local attractions very easy. Was nice to have the bar on site.

Disliked: I guess it was the end of the season but we didn't see much of the advertised 'entertainment' and the staff seemed a little fed up and tired. The facilities were fine for the women but the mens was apparently not up to standard.

Local attractions

Both Ballintoy and Ballycastle are on the coast road to Giant’s Causeway, the alleged stomping ground of giant Finn McCool and the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. Make a day of it by quivering across the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (don’t look down) and calm your nerves afterwards with a toddy and a tour at Bushmills Distillery. Ballycastle is the ferry point for Rathlin Island, six miles off the coast. This RSPB reserve and tiny island is a must-see: get the Puffin Bus to the west coast to peer at the colourful critters up close, then stroll south to see the seals and the ruined stone cottages from days of yore. For day trips, the seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart are where many Northern Irish folk meander to on a sunny day: Barry’s Amusements in Portrush is an institution, and Portstewart has to be visited for a roll down the sand dunes.
