  • Peaceful family-run site on a working farm 20 minutes from Ashbourne
  • Less than half an hour's drive from Alton Towers theme park
  • Farm-reared beef and homemade cakes available on site
Heaps of space and peace to enjoy, farm animals on site and Alton Towers a short drive away: Derbyshire's Broomhill Farm is bound to be a winner with all sorts of guests. From this peaceful site on a working farm there's easy access to quiet footpaths to tramp along, either around the site or beyond in the Peak District National Park. That large amount of space also means plenty of peaceful corners for chilling out by a campfire or barbecue; you shouldn’t have any beef with nosy neighbours either, as the next-door fields are full of the working farm's resident cows. A rural retreat this may be, but it's an easily accessible one: the A50 main road is a mere mile and half away, as is an excellent village pub. The farm's own beef and homemade cakes are available to buy on site for barbecues, breakfasts and afternoon treats; further food foraging will take you to the supermarkets, restaurants and takeaways of Uttoxeter (15 minutes' drive) or Ashbourne (20 minutes). Town tasks complete, settle in back at Broomhill for quiet times with essential facilities covered: the well-kept pitches have been kitted out with water taps and electricity points, and there's a single family washroom with a shower room and toilet (those with their own facilities are encouraged to use them).

Local attractions

Keen to carry on the relaxed vibe started on site? Potter off to the Peak District National Park (half an hour's drive) for rural rambles or to ride horses or bikes along miles and miles of scenic trails, or make the most of that National Trust membership with days out taking in the toy museum at Sudbury Hall (five minutes' drive) or visiting the country estates of Calke Abbey and Kedleston Hall (both half an hour). Prefer something a bit livelier? The Peak District is packed with outdoorsy activities to get stuck in with: days of climbing, caving, gorge scrambling and other adventures can all be had with an hour’s drive, as can paddleboarding, canoeing and windsurfing at Carsington Water (half an hour’s drive). Even livelier still? It may well not escape the nippers' notice (or yours for that matter) that Alton Towers appears frequently on road signs around the area. A drive of 25 minutes or so will get you from the site to one of the country’s most-visited attractions; you’ll no doubt easily fill a day (or few) here between the theme park rides, the waterpark, the adventure golf course and the special events.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very friendly owners. Toilets and showers always clean. Nice and quiet. Easy access to water (very close so not far to walk to get it). Loved seeing the cows in the field next to us. It was like a home from home. There are a few towns nearby to go and explore. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be going back.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The campsite, felt very homely and friendly. The hosts were lovely and even helped us find some bricks for our campfire. They came over to our pitch and had a great chat with us so we could get to know them and they could get to know us a little better. We had our 18 month old with us so we camped in a secure gated field where everyone kept the gate shut throughout our stay to keep my little one safe. We were also next to a field of cows and it just felt super picturesque, especially with the bright pink sunset. The price was great for the land hire, electricity, toilet and shower use and to just feel secure in a pitch. It’s also not far from Alton Towers so we will definitely be staying again! Thank you so much for having us! We look forward to coming back to stay again.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely quaint campsite

Disliked: My only minor dislike was, there`s only one mixed gender toilet which also includes the shower, so if someone`s showering or on the toilet you have to wait. When people also go in twos and take their two dogs into the cubicle i cannot see the logic in this, meaning they`re in there for a good 45 minutes and when they exit the cubicle stinks of damp dogs.
