  • Friendly family-run park in the High Peak
  • Adjacent to the High Peak Trail
  • Well-kept and clean amenities
'Best ever in my camping career...' yep, the standards are set high at High Peak site Pomeroy Caravan Park. Bag a weekend break or a longer hol here to see for yourself – and you'll find a lofty amount of things to see and do all around, as Pomeroy is just off the A515 and well set for biking and hiking the High Peak and Tissington trails. Although it's not far from the motorway, this is a quiet and peaceful site in a very rural part of the country, adjacent to the family's dairy farm and with restful but grand views of the High Peaks among the Peak District hills. Well-known spots like Bakewell, Buxton, Castleton and Chatsworth are all easy to get to from here; local villages Monyash, Hartington and Tissington are a few minutes' drive away. The friendly Pomeroy team lays on simple but modern and well-kept amenities including a toilet block with free hot showers, and both family-friendly and disabled bathrooms.

Local attractions

Pomeroy Caravan Park is adjacent to the High Peak Trail, which links to the Tissington Trail three miles away at Parsley Hay: High Peak + Tissington = some of the best of the Peak District's walks and cycles. For other activities, the Peak has loads to see and do among its landscape, outdoor pursuits, historic houses, market towns and villages, river valleys, woods and hills. A few highlights are the antiques, paintings and furniture collections at utterly gorgeous Chatsworth House (aka the oft-named UK's favourite country house, aka film-Pemberley); climbing or walking the sheer cliff High Tor, and a look at the poached egg formations at Poole's Cavern. At Matlock Bath along the River Derwent, have fish and chips then head uphill to the Heights of Abraham, a country park and showcaves approached by cable car over a cavernous limestone gorge. Back on ground, Matlock Bath is a popular meeting place for motorbikers and miles of tiptop biking road are all around.

Fully-serviced grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: On arrival the staff were helpful and friendly. The grass pitches are well marked for campervans, caravans and tents. The washblock and pot washing area are spacious, heated and well lit. The reception has a small supply of essentials but most of all ice cream made on site at the farm. In addition there is farm pasteurised milk and milkshakes which are excellent. Goats at the farm can be viewed or fed at specific times. There is foot and cycle access to the High Peak way which runs passed the site. Local pubs available within either a 10 or 30 minute walk with Buxton a 10 minute drive.
