  • Rural Lincolnshire site close to Skegness
  • Secure car park, modern amenities and play area
  • Supermarket, farmers' market and family pub serving food all close by
What do a Domesday-dated village and a seaside spot nicknamed Skeggy have in common? Answer: they’re both within easy reach of a pitch at Old Leake Leisure Park, set in the rural Lincolnshire landscape for those who want a peaceful location but who also do like to be beside the seaside. Classic family resort Skegness is just a short drive away for sea-based shenanigans, with the quiet village of Old Leake a handy haven for quiet countryside walks once you can tear the kids away from the seaside: it's not a surprise at all that this friendly and spacious site has been called ‘a little gem’ by happy previous guests. There’s a secure car park on site and amenities are bang up to date with refurbished shower blocks with free hot showers, a washing-up area and separate toilet blocks for the guys and the gals. A play area is also around to occupy the kids. Foodwise, a supermarket is less than half a mile away and there’s a farmers’ market nearby as well as a general shop in Old Leake village. The nearest pub, The Bricklayers Arms, is family-friendly and a 10-minute walk down the lanes for real ale and top pub grub in front of the fire in colder months or in the beer garden under the sun.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nothing. We didn't stop very long please read the dislikes as this isn't a good place to go

Disliked: Where do you start, when you arrive you will be greeted by a scruffy old man who looks older than gods dog. After a 10 minute argument over where I could park my van he finally let us park it next to the caravan. We have a look around to see what can only be described as a scrap yard old stripped out static caravans with old appliances stacked outside. We check out the toilet blocks to find that they to are something out of a doomsday film they are old they smell terrible and I certainly wouldn't wash my dog in the shower. Oh and bring your own bog roll 🙄 Then to top the evening off we get a knock at the caravan at 10.30 pm by two Albanians asking for a lift the next morning to work at 8 o'clock in the morning to wich they got told to go and leave us alone. Last but not least the sight is mainly occupied by people that live there in crumbling rust buckets who work the fields, so if you like being stared at all the time you will feel right at home but if not like us you will feel uncomfortable

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nothing at all, so bad we did not stay.

Disliked: Everything. We entered the site, no reception which we were aware of but had to be taken to a caravan at bottom of site, we passed lots of static caravans that looked unkempt and as if they would fall to bit if touched. We knew the toilet block was basic but did not expect it to be like a pre war outdoor toilets. The space for pitching our tents was no more than a grass patch in the middle of the static vans. We also knew that the site had workers staying on the field, but not the amount we saw.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely area too stay Mike the owner was a lovely gentleman very helpful couldn’t do enough for us. Facilities where ok if you didn’t look up and see the spiders

Disliked: Unfortunately there was a caravan there with people in it who had no consideration for others with music blasting out. Then they come outside started a camp fire and was making lots of noise.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Have stayed before. Nice location. Toilets and shower are dated but perfectly useable. Owner friendly.

Disliked: The site has a number of static caravans which house construction workers and their families. Whilst they were loud during the day, you can’t expect people to creep about silently where they live. But Sunday night they had a bbq and incredibly loud music. They were told to turn it down, then told they would get kicked off site. It was still loud, as were they. As it was my last night I packed up and came home because it wasn’t a particularly nice atmosphere.

I would recommend for a complete get away. We WILL be back soon.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We were fully accommodated when we flooded in our tent. We were allowed to bring on a small caravan to substitute. The staff were absolutely amazing and incredibly friendly. Clean and well kept.

Disliked: The weather, but that wasn’t their fault.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: shops, takeaway and pub only 5 minutes down the road, although old and dated had everything on site with showers, toilets and utility room also chemical disposal. No reception but that was not a problem as Mike met us and showed us where to go, very friendly and explained where everything was.

Local attractions

Even reluctant shoppers should be convinced to go along to the open-air market in historic Boston, a mere eight miles from the caravan park – and should then be persuaded to climb the seven floors for the views at Maud Foster’s Windmill, one of the oldest in the country. Also for determined shoppers, the market at Ingoldmells is open seven days a week, with car boot sales on most days during the summer to bag that Antiques-Roadshow-worthy bargain. Walkwise, there are several strolls in the countryside around Old Leake village, and a ramble around the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve is also recommended, with hundreds of acres of unspoilt habitats to stroll around. Budding naturalists (or big ones) should take in some time at Freiston Shore to see water birds on the saltwater lagoon at all times of year, while visitors who want to behave in a birdlike way and catch some fish for their supper are only a short drive from some of Lincolnshire’s sea fishing hotspots: Huttoft, Moggs Eye, Anderby Creek and Chapel Point, with trout fisheries also in abundance nearby. Visitors who wish they could fly can check out the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum, based on a 1940s RAF Lancaster Bomber airfield; aviation enthusiasts will also be able to see most of the RAF’s history over the past 70 years in flight from Royal Air Force Coningsby at Lincoln, which uses Spitfires, Hurricanes, a Dakota and a Lancaster in its Battle of Britain Memorial Flights. This area of Lincolnshire is noted for its wildlife too and there are several beastie-type attractions about – kids usually love trying to outsquawk the parrots at the National Parrot Sanctuary/The Parrot Zoo, which has the biggest collection of parrots in England as well as other critters such as marmosets and monkeys. The biggest draw of this part of the coast is of course Skegness, with its historic pier, Natureland Seal Sanctuary and Blue Flag Central Beach where donkey rides can still be had in the 21st century and there’s still a funfair. Just as it should be.
