  • Peaceful back-to-basics site nine miles from Newark
  • Campfire area for guests to share
  • Pub serving food 600 yards away
Steal a break getting back to basics on the four and a half level acres of Poachers Patch in the village of Brant Broughton in Lincolnshire – although there's easy access from the A17, this is a peaceful place, set back from the road on the south end of the village's High Street. The pitching area is a long meadow that borders the Sandbeck stream to the south and the River Brant to the east, and has a designated campfire area for all guests to share (ghost stories a must, of course…) and a loo block with hot and cold water. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on site. The local pub the Generous Briton is 600 yards away; it serves food and takeaways, and has a café opposite that's open from Thursdays through to Sundays. Nearby Navenby has a fish and chip shop, an Indian takeaway, a baker, a butcher, antique shops and two pubs.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked: Lovely location, lovely homely shower room. Fabulous big pitch. Had everything we needed, great hosts, fantastic starry nights & beautiful bird song.

Disliked: A few teething problems with electricity but it was their first day open this season & electrician was on site on Sunday to sort.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Nice, small caravan site. Very neat and well kept. Had three male and one female toilet, and one unisex shower with a toilet, these facilities were very clean and hygienic. They didn’t charge for the dogs but asked for a donation to the Air Ambulance via a charity box in the summer house. (Brilliant idea)

Disliked: The front gate had a padlock with numbers on a barrel. Four numbers had to be manually lined up to open the lock. It was a bit fiddly especially in the dark!

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely little site, friendly owners and clean facilities (didn't use shower ). Short walk to village pub.

Disliked: Quite close to A17 so quite a lot of road noise. Probably not noticeable in a van/motorhome but we were under canvas so didn't get great nights sleep.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked: Large tent pitch with ehu. Quiet site with basic facilities. Friendly owners and assistant.

Disliked: Work to clear nearby fields of overhanging tree branches and hedges was very noisy. We were just unlucky.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Loved the quiet, peaceful site. All very well kept. Basic, only one toilet for ladies and one for the gents, but very clean and well looked after. Judith was always walking around the site, keeping an eye on things, but not in an invasive manner. On Sunday there was only us there. Good public footpaths in the area. Village pub is a short stroll away down the main street, with good food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Disliked: you need a long hook-up lead, but Judith has spares if yours doesn't reach.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind comments. Just for clarity: There are 2 lady's toilets and 3 men's. You only need a longer lead if you want to camp at the far end of the field away from the hook up points [usually when there is a group/rally]

We received a warm welcome. The site and facilities were spotless. Level…
