  • Family-run woodland and grassland site
  • Immaculately-maintained amenities including launderette
  • Less than 45 minutes' drive from Lincoln
When sensible peeps peruse pitches, they look for sites using a range of essential provisos to tick off: location, type of accommodation and nearness to the local pub are a few factors all to be considered before booking. But the state of toilets and showers is more important than non-campers might imagine, and can swiftly flip an all-right break into a mighty frustrating one. If decent ablutions are among your ticking-off points, peaceful Grace Park in lovely Lincolnshire should leave you feeling flushed. The Grace Park team take pride in all the factors of their three-and-a-half-acre family-run woodland and grassland site, but particularly in the essentials, which they strive to maintain at a level you’d expect at home (assuming you’re a domesticated type of course). The smart facilities block is centrally heated with non-slip tiled floors in the separate ladies’ and gents’ showers and toilets, and includes a room with helpers’ rails and wide doors for disabled access. Another bonus – showers are free and not on a timer, so lather up for as long as you like. As you’ll probably care just a tad about location too: Grace Park is in a countryside setting with scenic walks all around, near to the wanders, mountain biking and wildlife watching of Laughton Forest. It’s an easy distance from most of Lincolnshire’s top attractions, including the Lincolnshire Wolds to the east and the city of Lincoln within 45 minutes' drive. The village of Blyton, home of the very Enid Blyton-sounding ice cream café, is a mile from the park; a village shop and a pub (also something to care about on holiday) are both within walking distance, but you'll need to be careful with kids as it's quite a busy road. It's worth noting that the road (and the nearby race track) also means there can be some car noise on the pitches.

Local attractions

Possibly not very Enid Blyton, but certainly very wizard, is roaring around at the nearby Blyton Park Racing Circuit, where boy and girl racers should speed along to see a motorsports day, and/or hire karts to drive around a 600-metre track. (Lincolnshire is prime biking country too if you have your own motorbike, but they can't be used at this circuit.) Under your own steam, pedal or parade among the conifer and silver birch trees of Laughton Forest or Water’s Edge Country Park, with many species including rare plants and birds among the woodland and ten ponds; look out for kingfishers in winter. Normanby Hall Country Park at Scunthorpe has 300 acres of grounds including woodland, a deer park, fishing lake and Victorian walled garden; also worth a look is Doddington Hall and Gardens and the nature trail through the wild garden. The city of Lincoln is very much worth a look for historical buildings like Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle. While in town, mull over the story of the region at The Museum of Lincolnshire Life and check out The Collection, Lincoln’s award-winning art and archaeology museum. To Lincoln’s south-east, flight fans should aim for a guided hangar tour at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at Coningsby.
