  • Family park a short drive from Mablethorpe
  • Coarse fishing pond, indoor pool and kids' club
  • Adventure playground, soft play area and bar lounge serving food
Had enough of the boss making you do all the donkey work? Fed up with working like a pack mule? Feel like it’s been donkey’s years since your last holiday? Come and kick your heels with the real donkeys on Mablethorpe beach for a few days instead. Set on the north Lincolnshire coast 20 minutes' drive from Louth, Sunnydale Holiday Park opens out onto a wide stretch of sandy beach for seaside strolls, and is a 15-minute drive from the family-friendly cluster of beachy activities in the resort of Mablethorpe (think fairground rides, donkeys and crazy golf… along with chip-eating and sandcastle-building of course). Dipped your toe in the sea and declared it a touch chilly for swims? Get your cossie on back at the park, where the indoor pool promises suitably heated waters in all weather. And if you'd rather sit by the water than dunk yourself in it, bring along a rod licence for days spent by the site's coarse fishing pond. Keeping the kids busy should be straightforward here: there are great kids’ clubs for children under 11, an adventure playground and soft play area, plus a range of organised sports activities on land and in the pool. During the summer there's also a range of lively shows laid on to keep the whole family entertained for the evening. And keeping everyone fed and watered should be a cinch too, as the lounge bar has you sorted for a good range of grub (and suitable drinks) at breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks throughout the day.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly staff, swimming pool, clubhouse

Disliked: Touring field was very muddy as was the whole site, Helen did warn us before we set off though. It seems that the whole site has a drainage problem as I walked around the site next door and it was fine. The touring field was ok as it was quiet so we had space but can imagine in the summer that it’s very cramped.

Liked: What a lovely place to unwind. The ladies in the office were so nice, kind and very helpful. My pitch was under trees with no one looking in on me. The site is so well looked after. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Sunnydale, I will be visiting again for sure.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The fish and chip shop on opposite site

Disliked: Pool was freezing - poorly maintained plastic covers missing and loose, Changing rooms vile and not cleaned. Activities cancelled, grounds poorly maintained. Thorns around water filling station and the waste disposal was right next to fresh water and sinks. Muddy, uneven and bumpy ground. Clubhouse was dirty, dead flies and food remaining on the floor from previous night. The entertainment team had about as much personality as a stone and happily told us how awful the facility was. Dreadful experience, thankfully Mablethorpe a fifteen minute drive had a gorgeous beach to save the day! Would not come back unless facilities were greatly improved, whoever is running this site is certainly not paying attention to it.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Great little site with a lovely member of staff chloe working in reception but with a team behind her who don’t communicate unfortunately it’s lets her hard work go un noticed.

Disliked: Swimming pool closed Mondays and Fridays even in peek season (madness)…….we was sent a booking code the day before we arrived but everything was already booked. The seasonal guests should not be allowed to book all the slots of swimming. A certain amount of slots should be allocated for other guests. The pre booked pitch we booked was taken by someone else and unfortunately the staff are to scared to make people move to the pitch they are allocated so people just pitch where they want. The man cutting the grass on two days of our stay was weaving in and out of cars and caravans at 7.45…….far to early to be woken by an elderly man on a sit on lawn mower. The toilets in the main entertainment are absolutely vile the smell of raw sewage takes your breath. We was there 4 days and it just got worse. The toilets are absolutely disgusting and was no cleaners to be seen. You could even smell it in the food area. Monday night there was no beer being served then Tuesday night they ran out of ice, these are a basic thing for a pub seems poor management in my opinion. The small arcade is absolutely shocking, most machines are broken and don’t work properly, the air hockey doesn’t even blow air out so these machines just taking kids money and with no staff about to ask for help them it’s just taking money from out children. We have booked another week in august (booked months ago) and I’m absolutely dreading coming back again. Hoping to cancel People work hard and save hard for these holidays and this site just isn’t good enough, from park dean you expect so much more. I really hope management see this review and stop the lazy staff from sitting back and allowing what could be a lovely well run site go down hill.

Local attractions

For seaside days, start by making for Mablethorpe (15 minutes' drive), where there's a lengthy stretch of sandy beach and a seal sanctuary to repair to if it's not paddle-worthy weather (or, understandably, you just like to coo over cute creatures…) Cleethorpes (35 minutes) is another good bet for a beachy day, especially if you schedule in a trip on the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway – it's one of the UK's oldest seaside steam railways, and can fittingly take you to the smallest pub on the planet. Mix up coast days with country outings to go horse riding in the Lincolnshire Wolds (25 minutes), meet friendly farm animals at Rushmoor Farm Park (15 minutes) or see how medieval folk lived at Tattershall Castle (50 minutes). For a bit of city time it’s about an hour’s drive to Lincoln, with its gorgeous castle, cathedral and culture (not forgetting the shops).
