  • Peaceful Lincolnshire Wolds park less than a mile from Market Rasen
  • On the Lindsey Trail for cycling, walking and riding
  • Dog-friendly site with launderette and centrally heated bathroom block
If we were fortunate enough to possess our own nag, we'd surely be cantering forth to this campsite on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds as soon as ever we could. For Walesby Woodlands Caravan Park, run by Paul and Julia in a peaceful woodland setting, is bang on the Lindsey Trail, yielding miles upon miles of trotting (and ambling, and cycling) opportunities through the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walesby is a quiet park, used as a base by clever campers who want to explore the attractions and villages of the Wolds or delve into local countryside pursuits like fishing, golf and wildlife watching. It's less than a mile from Market Rasen for supplies, shops, pubs, fishing, golf and more nags at Market Rasen Racecourse, and within driving distance of Skegness and the Lincolnshire coast. The pitch price includes free hot water for the centrally heated shower and loo block. Walesby Woodlands also has a launderette, wifi, Calor gas for sale and an automatic security barrier for added safety. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Julia and Paul run a café on site at the weekends in high season and over bank holidays (except Easter); at other times, Market Rasen should have most of what you need, including traditional shops, a farm shop, bakery, butcher and a supermarket. Please note that the owners are keen not to disturb resident wildlife so they keep light levels low by night. The toilet block is well-lit but it's a clever idea to pack a torch to find your way there.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Check in was easy and the lady was very helpful in showing us where things were and the walks direct from the site . Pitch side was great and the grounds were immaculate . It was clear the owner works very hard. Surrounding area was lovely . We went to the "Edge of the wolds" cafe /farm shop . Just a couple of minutes from the site which was lovely and dog friendly too . The dog wash got well used by my spaniels !!

Disliked: just a heads up for anyone travelling . Between 12 and 2 all of the toilet/shower blocks are closed for cleaning . Its arrival time which could cause problems especially for kids after the journey . Toilet blocks were very clean although the showers had my nightmare ... The push button !

From the manager: Thank you. Yes, the toilet block time for cleaning is Midday as it cannot be cleaned through morning or evening rush hours. When checking in we notify our customers to try to avoid visiting the toilet block between 12pm and 2pm and use instead their own facilities. In case of needing toilet on arrival or for customers, who doesn't have their own facilities, we suggest just to knock to the toilet/shower block door and it will be opened for usage, no problem. Best regards

Local attractions

For day trips, Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes on the Lincolnshire coast can be reached in about an hour in the car and lovely Lincoln is within about 40 minutes' drive. If you prefer to stick closer to home on your own feet/wheels, Walesby Woodlands is on both the 75 miles of the Lindsey Trail and the National Cycle Trail One. The Viking Way, from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland, also passes near the park, as does the 78-mile circular Lincolnshire Wolds Way (handily broken into daily sections of about six hours each). Lincolnshire is pretty nifty for market towns and shopping, like at Louth, Horncastle and Woodhall Spa, all well within an hour's drive; be sure and wheel back many samples from Louth's award-winning The Cheese Shop. At Woodhall Spa, have an old-fashioned evening out at Kinema in the Woods, entertaining those around the area since 1922 and with its own 18th-century organ – and organist.
