  • Family-run site with private fishing lake, four miles from Skegness
  • Wildlife haven a mile from the pubs and village of Wainfleet
  • Café, shop and bar for takeaway drinks
Have a right heavenly time among Lincolnshire coast, countryside and Wolds with a stay at Havenhouse Farm: its rural setting is only four miles from Skegness and a mile from the local village of Wainfleet, close to the Lincolnshire Wolds. Once a farm and now a family-run campsite, the site is in a wildlife haven, so look out for the plentiful feathered species all around including ducks, barn owls and other resident birds. Nature spotting and twitching is easily available a few miles along at the coast. Although it's nicely small, Havenhouse has facilities set up so you can peacefully while time away, such as a private eight-peg fishing lake stocked to the gills with carp, roach, rudd, tench, and perch of up to 14lb, that guests can angle in for a small extra charge. River fishing in the Steeping is also available on site and is free; please just make sure you have the right licence for both. Havenhouse has a café, serving light meals and drinks, and Smokey Joe's bar, where you can order drinks to take back to your pitch. A small site shop sells basics and ice cream; more of the same along with several pubs and a bank are a mile down the road at Wainfleet. Amenities on site include a shower block with toilets, a washing-up area and chemical disposal.

Local attractions

Get along to Lincolnshire seaside days at the famed resort of Skegness, home to not only a long stretch of beach but also Natureland Seal Sanctuary, Skegness Aquarium, the National Parrot Sanctuary, a theatre, Skegness Stadium and a lengthy pier with amusement arcade and bowling. Regular buses stop three-quarters of a mile from Havenhouse Farm. Just alongside Skegness is Ingoldmells and the theme park Fantasy Island; from here, travel north to other Lincolnshire seaside towns like Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe, or south to the Norfolk side of The Wash at Hunstanton and Snettisham. Gibraltar Point, the sand dunes and marshland nature reserve with thousands of squalling seabirds, is just to the south of Skegness. For family options alongside the aquarium and other critters of Skegness, try Hardys Animal Farm at Ingoldmells, Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary at Huttoft, or the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, in the countryside just outside Boston. Inland, traverse the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of the Lincolnshire Wolds, and their well known market towns such as Louth, Alford and Market Rasen.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: The campsite was in the middle of being taken over by new owners, and was therefore a building site, although we were given the option to have a refund, and the site accomodated the bookings they already had. We also had the use of the toilet at the back of the house.

Disliked: We were allowed to pitch our tent around the back of the house, but got bitten to death by mosquitoes from the stagnant water in the fishing pond. The main toilets/showers were disgraceful, and need pulling down.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Didn't like anything about it, owner was rude. Tent was pitched up on a concrete slab. The whole farm was a building site.

Disliked: Toilets were very unclean, shower fell off the wall. Dog mess all over the grass. Work men banging and waking everyone up at 7.45am. Nowhere for the tent to be pitched other than a concrete slab in the middle of the building works.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: They told us straight away there's no space

Disliked: We haven't spent time here because on arrival we were told it's over booked and there's no space for us. The place was basically a building site. On going constructions. Tents forced next to each other etc. Still waiting for refund.

Liked: Friendly host.

Disliked: Unfortunately it was like a building site as he seems to be upgrading the site. I think it'll be very nice when finished maybe a year or 2. No cafe like the post said or bar like post said so very mis leading. Very noisy at night no one to say be quiet after certain time. Toilet diabolical. 2 womens 1 was broke and the other no lock and wasn't cleaned. Mens the same. Shower was amazing but the cubicle it was in was disgusting. No cleanliness at all. Fishing lake non existence. Washing up facilities disgusting sink backed up. Hope he does it justice when he's finished building what he needs too but our stay wasn't brilliant.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: The location.

Disliked: Toilet dirty, no lock on door. shower rubbish and dirty, no shop, no we’re to get food. It’s a building site, building materials left all over the site. power tools left out over night. rubbish all over the floor ( building materials rubbish flying about everywhere, bins over flowing ) no lights on site, trip hazards as wires/cables lying about, empty fire extinguishers lying about especially from the rough land ( carpark ) to the site, as cars can’t be left next to tent ( can understand that as very little space between tents) Building work going on till 8pm, work men drinking on job, not suitable for any age, especially children, no regards at all to health and safety at all, this place should be closed until the site is complete!!! Paid extra for electric, it’s a extension cable lay between tents. Nothing luxury at all here. Pot sink dirty and all the dirty water goes into the garden of the river side lodge. It had a new management three months ago , they need to change there website as it’s all false advertising, if there was availability on another site we would have moved!!

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked: Close to city centre and beach.

Disliked: Toilets were extremely dirty after a certain point of the day. Only one shower available for women and one for men. Fishing wasn't free as advertised, there wasn't a breakfast or bar as advertised. There was a very big construction happening inside the camp. The only place where we could wash any dishes was very dirty and pipe was broken so most of the water would leak under sink. One of the three toilets available for women was blocked and one of the others was damaged so whenever you flushed, the water would come back up either through the sink or the drain on the floor which was extremely disgusting. When we first met the owner he seemed very nice and welcoming but after we asked some questions about the fishing he was very rude to both children that were with us and another of ours. Car park was also very small and occupied 24/7 by construction workers and owner's car which meant there was very little space for any campers' cars as well as being very dirty.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: The scenery around the campsite

Disliked: We arrived at the campsite after 2 hours drive to be told that they’re having work done so they’re going to have to cancel our booking. We had a newborn baby with us, so we needed somewhere to stay. They managed to put us on a pitch next to the work men. It was unsafe, wires everywhere, broken slabs, bags of cement. They didn’t block that area off. The toilets were a disgrace. 1 toilet for the ladies with no lock, absolutely filthy. Shower was ok, that’s being generous. 1am someone was arguing really loud next to our campervan. The owner didn’t seem in control. Didn’t tell us where toilets, showers and bins were. It’s situated next to a train station, but that’s a waste of time because there were hardly any leaving. It has a lot of potential, beautiful surroundings, but we couldn’t wait to leave.

Liked: Nothing didn't get on site

Disliked: When we arrived at the site after a long journey from Nottingham with two children and me being pregnant to be told we can't stay because there is no where for us to park and we shouldn't of been able to book in the first place was very annoying and it was also to late to book else were we were offered a full refund and haven't heard anything about that yet and it was like offering us a refund would make things right we didn't get any help to try and resolve the situation very disappointed
