  • Adults-only Fenland caravan park 25 minutes’ drive from Spalding
  • Gedney 20 minutes’ walk, and Sandringham Estate 50 minutes’ drive
  • Landscaped pitches with a store at reception; pub 10 minutes’ walk
Award-winning, adults-only, tree-shaded pitches… sounds good to you? At Delph Bank Caravan Park, you can expect all this and also add in some jolly fine Fenland scenery to explore, before coming back each night to a landscaped South Lincolnshire caravan park laid out with flower beds, shrubs and mature trees. The pitches are level, with grass, hardstanding and fully serviced options, all with electric hook-ups. They are nicely surrounded by farmland and peaceful countryside, giving you the opportunity to relax at your own pace, stretch your legs on quiet rural lanes and keep an eye out for all the wildlife round and about. The well-stocked store at reception will see you right for emergency re-provisioning and all-day snacks, and if it’s time for a major shop, the supermarkets of Spalding are but 25 minutes’ drive away. If you don’t want to drive, local bus services leave every half hour for Spalding or King’s Lynn (half an hour), picking up a few yards from the park entrance. It’s also an easy 10 minutes’ walk into the local village of Fleet Hargate, which has a pub, tea room, restaurant and farm shop.

Local attractions

Keen cyclists can join National Cycle Route 1 directly from the pitches for flat cycling through Fenlands crisscrossed with peaceful waterways and flat landscapes dotted with church spires. Walkers may like to follow the way-marked, circular Three Church Trail from Fleet Hargate Baptist Church (10 minutes’ walk) to the landmark ‘Cathedral of the Fens’ in Gedney (20 minutes) along country lanes and dykes. There’s plenty of grand architecture in these parts too – and nothing comes much grander than the sprawling Royal household on the Sandringham Estate (50 minutes’ drive), open for guided tours when the King’s not in residence. Almost as impressive is 16th-century Burghley House (55 minutes), where you can peek into sumptuous interiors and stroll the extensive deer park. For days on the North Norfolk coast, choose between shingle Snettisham Beach (55 minutes), good for wading birds around RSPB Snettisham Reserve; the brace of beaches (one lively, the other nigh-on deserted) at Heacham; and sandy Hunstanton (both an hour), backed by pink-tinged cliffs. A nose around the Georgian Hanse House, Custom House and Purfleet Quay in King’s Lynn (half an hour) recalls the town’s heyday as a thriving sea port before the Fens were drained.
