Railway Wagon 1 bedroom shepherd's hut
Liked: Andy and Emma were fantastic hosts. Very welcoming, Friendly and helpful. The campsite is very spacious, clean and well looked after. We took our two girls and was a little worried before hand they would get bored easily. Not a chance. There is so much for them to do and get involved in. The best bit is the animals. Donkey's, Chickens, Rabbit and Guinea pigs. At 8.30am and 4.30pm your children can get involved with feeding time. During feeding times Andy and Emma talk the children through the process and all sorts of information about the different animals. The children were very entertained through it all. We stayed in one of the converted train carts. It was very tidy, clean and spacious. A big sofa that turns into a very big double bed. the bunk beds we very good for the children too. Outside we had a covered picnic table and seating around a fire pit. Which was my highlight. Was very relaxing sitting around the fire in the evening, taking in the peace and quite. There is a games room for the children too. Pool table, piano, books and plenty of games to keep the children occupied. There was a male and female toilet and shower room. Kept clean and tidy. Also a unisex one for families. There is also a lovely communal seating area that's covered.
Disliked: honestly cant think of anything to dislike :)

Liked: Andy and Emma were amazing hosts. They were very welcoming and clearly loved running their campsite. The toilet, shower and washing facilities were very clean with plenty of hot water. The games room and shop were excellent additions to the site. The pool table was a particular hit with our daughter and the friends she made on the site. Best of all was the twice daily feeding of the chickens, ducks and guinea pigs. Andy and Emma were so patient with all the children, making sure they all got a turn feeding and stroking the animals. Our daughter is very nervous around animals, but by the end of our stay she was feeding chickens and holding guinea pigs!

From the manager: It was a real pleasure having you all here and helping your daughter with her fear of animals. We hope to see you all again soon.

Electric optional grass pitch
Liked: Large pitch, friendly welcoming owners. Facilities are fantastic for young children with a common room for them to meet and make friends in. Toilets were always clean tidy. Great opportunity for kids and adults to handle and feed the animals on site is run twice a day and I know that my children woke up especially to do this and this became a major part of their day.

Liked: This was our 2nd visit because its such a great site. The site is kept beautifully and the kids love the animals they can feed and pet. Andy and Emma are such great hosts and so friendly, getting the kids involved. Kids love making friends and running around in all the trees. The facilities are always kept clean and tidy and we love the communal areas. The site is a good base for visiting places in the area.

Liked: Lovely, small site, facilities Nice animals, all available to pet at certain times Emma & Andy both welcoming and helpful Fire pits available to rent if required
Disliked: No WiFi. Not an issue for us, we don't use electrics while camping

From the manager: Thanks for your review. We made a conscious decision no to have wifi, so that kids are more likely to stay off screens. It works brilliantly and most parents are really appreciative of it. But if anyone gets desperate for connectivity, the 4G round here is usually pretty good. :-D
Highly recommend

Liked: Everything! The shared areas were spotlessly clean. The owners are lovely and spend a lot of time showing the kids the animals and chatting to everyone. We had a fab time and can’t wait to go back!

Liked: Loved the campsite a lot. Spacious pitches, loved all the animals, it was great for the children. Had a lovely snug and sheltered area for people to sit together. I thought it was a lovely place to camp already not within close walking distance of anything. Was peaceful in the day time, lovely flat pitches.
Disliked: Although I loved the campsite, I didn't think there were enough facilities. Only 2 toilets for the women, 1 for the men and a unisex/ disabled toilet. Only 3 showers as well. This did mean we did have to wait to get a shower and although there aren't many pitches, in high season there were a lot of kids!

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We occasionally receive comments about the number of facilities we have. It seems that these comments are usually from people who are relatively new to camping as I am certain you will have to queue far more in most campsites than at ours. Most local authorities use campsite model standards as the basis for facility quantities. These spell out what hosts should be providing as a minimum and state that, for sites of up to 120 pitches, there should be: Two toilets and two handbasins for women for every 30 pitches One toilet, one urinal and two handbasins for men for every 30 pitches Our campsite license stipulates that we need the above for our 25 pitches. This kind of ratio is the norm for UK campsites. However, we only run 20 of the 25 pitches we are allowed to run and we have added a unisex family 'en-suite' shower room and 2 toilet huts for the glamping. This increases our facilities to pitch ratio way higher than is typical for the UK and way above all stipulated guidelines. No matter how many facilities you have, there is always the possibility of having to wait a short while during peak times - typically 8-9am at weekends. Despite your opinion on this - it's great that you will still recommend us to other people. Thank you for visiting us.

Liked: Very friendly welcome from the owners, who also walked around in the evenings chatting to everyone. Great site for families with all the animals, games room for the older children. Undercover communal area, option to rent a fire pit. Large level pitches.
Disliked: Although this is a great site for families, it wasn't the site for us. Our pitch was at the back of the site with a road running along side it. Although not a main road it was rather busy and fast. My husband was afraid a car would come veering off onto our tent! Not the fault of the site but there were so many pigeons in the surrounding trees. There was 2 female toilets with one shower in, the men's had one toilet and one urinal and one single shower. There was also a 'family bathroom' which had a toilet, sink and double base shower. Although they were clean(ish), they felt grubby. They could do with a revamp! The evening we arrived a sign was put up asking people to refrain from using, toilets, showers and washing up as the cesspit was full and would be emptied at 10am the next day. For someone with ibs this is not good, trip to tesco first thing in the morning was needed! Where everyone was going to the loo I do not know! There was just one water tap located at the rear of the site which was hidden in the bushes.

From the manager: Hi Lyanne, thanks for your feedback - we take all such comments on board and try to address them. The toilet block is kept clean, but we totally take onboard your views that it could do with a revamp. It has been a busy year, and usage across the season so far has taken its toll, so we will definitely be refreshing a few things at the end of the season. With regards the cesspit needing emptying - the high usage caught us by surprise late on the Friday night and we arranged for it to be emptied first thing the next morning. At no stage did we ask anyone to not use the toilets. We simply requested that water usage was kept to a minimum wherever possible, i.e. that people delayed their showers and reduced their use of tap water. Which everyone kindly accommodated. This unfortunate situation was resolved by 9:30 the next morning. If you had mentioned this was a significant problem for you, we would have allowed you access to the 2 additional Glamping loos (which were unaffected), or even supplied you with your own portable camping toilet. There are 6 water taps around the site. 3 clearly sign posted as drinking water. All are indicated on our site map.

Very friendly site and we will definitely be returning. No wifi but that didn’t bother us. Seeing the animals was lovely and you are allowed to help feed them too!
