  • Dog-friendly site near Spalding and 20 minutes' drive from Wisbech
  • Outdoor playground; big screens showing major live sports
  • Heated pool and large patio
Hurrah, The Rose and Crown in Holbeach Hurn, near Spalding, is stunning pub site with a village bar surrounded by the Lincolnshire Fens. Families, groups, solo travellers, bikers and dogs are all welcome at this friendly Lincolnshire site. And as the Rose and Crown is one of the last independent breweries in the region, you'll be fairly certain of getting a decent pint too… The pub has all sorts of touches you'll likely like to see in an inn: there's a main lounge and a beer garden with covered seating along with more modern updates like big screens showing Sky and BT Sports. There is also a heated outdoor pool and an outdoor kids' playground. The Rose and Crown is run by Dougie, who wants his guests to have as enjoyable a stay as possible: he's always working on upgrades to the pub and campsite so there's often something new to discover on a stay here… Wifi can be picked up in the pub only (not across the entire campsite), but it can be a bit poor/slow at times because of the rural setting. A supermarket is five minutes' drive away for supplies.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Brilliant place to stay, park was fantastic for the children and there was lots of space for them to play. Pub onsite is brilliant and also the free swimming use as you want. Facilities are clean and safe and only for site uses with a key card to enter.

Disliked: We just missed having a contained campfire.

Liked: The friendly staff who went out of their way for us and others. Lots of things on site such as swimming pool, playing area, shower/toilet block, pub, restaurant with entertainment

Disliked: Could do with a little updating and cleaning more of the shower/toilet blocks and essian room

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We asked to be put next to the park and the gentleman placed us there. Very happy with the service and all the staff seemed lovely. Grass was very well kept ed and I was surprised how dry it was even with the recent weather. On a night it was very quiet, all music was off by 11 around the vans and tents. The swimming pool is heated and clean. All parents have to watch their children as no life guard but to be honest, you can't expect someone to sit in the pool area all day unless it was open in roofed in the summer. Toilets clean and well kept. Brilliant new cleaning area. I didn't use the showers, so couldn't comment on this. My children aged 10 and 7 loved the park and I felt safe to let them play. The park is fantastic for the children. Zip lines, slides, swings. Very impressed! The pub serve food, we didn't eat but lots of people did. It was full every night so make sure you are early to get a seat. They have a out door space with a large screen and lots of tvs for the football, boxing, F1. The owner said he's putting a big screen on the roof for the Euoros! They have a small arcade area for the children, air hockey, bowling, pool and some other little games. We went to fun farm that is only a short drive away with the children. It was a large soft play. On a Mon, Wed, Fri and Sunday they have a car boot right near the soft play. 50p enter fee. We drove 1h out to fantasy island. Very tacky location but the children liked it.

Disliked: No entertainment over the Easter break. Very bad signal on EE

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Really good facilities, everything was as clean as possible for a damp bank holiday, very friendly staff. Even after we left the site and left a child’s prized possession they’ve offered to post it back to us! Really recommend for a lovely weekend away!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked: Easy access and friendly flexiable staff. Level pitches and east reach electric. Great facilities including swimming pool. Facilities were all very clean

Disliked: Work was ongoing on site and wasn’t aware when booked the pitch. It was no issue but didn’t think the pitch was worth full price with the work ongoing.

Liked: I liked the place it was nice and quiet and had a nice pub to and they were friendly and welcoming

Disliked: I disliked the washing facilities because the washing machine didn't work so could not wash my clothes, and where you washed your dishes it was only half covered, and the toilets only had hot water and the hand dryer didn't work

Route directions

If you are following a satnav, it may well take you down Low Road; ignore this and carry on along Marsh Road, where you will see the Rose and Crown pub (bright yellow) on your right. Check in here, then drive for another 30 yards to reach the site entrance, again on the right. Please don't drive down Low Road as this is only a small lane which tourers and motorhomes find it hard to come down.

Local attractions

You'll find a fair bit to do within a reasonable drive of the Rose and Crown, like Wisbech and its Elgoods Brewery, gardens and maze 20 minutes away, and royal days out at Sandringham within 35. Both Hunstanton and Skegness are within about 45 minutes' drive. Closer to home are two golf courses and Spalding's Springfields Outlet Shopping & Festival Gardens, which also has a tourist point detailing local attractions. Spend a day around the Wash too for birdwatching at Frieston, Gibraltar Point and RSPB Snettingsham and a look at the RAF bombing range where visitors are welcome to watch the aircraft. Historians have the National Trust's Peckover House or the Octavia Hill Birth Place Museum, both in Wisbech, to wander around, and if you have kids along on your hol, they'll probably fancy wanders around Fun Farm, Alley Katz Bowling or the Butterfly Wildlife Park.
