  • Walking, horse riding and mountain biking all nearby
  • Luxury shower block with hairdryers; campers' kitchen and firebowls
Are you up for a countryside stay in a wildlife haven? How about stargazing, mountain biking or horse riding, all in the splendid scenery of the Shropshire Hills? Make your way for all this and more to the scenic site of Woodbatch Camping and Glamping. There are quite a few little touches on this small family-run farm to make stays comfy and easy, from the luxury shower and toilet block with hairdryers, to the campers' kitchen with hot water, fridge freezer, kettle, microwave and toaster, to the most excellent firebowls for guests' use, upcycled from old washing machine drums. And everything's free to use, because Woodbatch Camping and Glamping is just that type of site… Middlebatch is a 17th-century working farm in a wildlife, birdwatching and walking haven in the Shropshire Hills, five minutes' drive from the friendly market town of Bishop's Castle, near Offa's Dyke Path, and in a prime and peaceful locale for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. There's no light pollution in these parts, so the area is a hit with stargazers too. Run expertly by Mary, the site also has a large disabled-friendly and family shower room as well as recycling facilities and a full breakfast takeaway menu.

Liked: A lovely farm campsite that was easy to find. The facilities were good, and the staff friendly (the reception was easy to find - unlike for another reviewer). I'm sure we will return

Disliked: No Wi-Fi, but we were aware of that, and 4G signal was OK

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This is an excellent campsite with great facilities that are clean and offer a more comfortable stay with fridge/freezer/microwave and washing up facilities! The showers and toilets are well maintained. The added extra of picnic benches and fire pits on each pitch is brilliant! Pitches are spacious with excellent views. The farm animals were a very welcome site for our toddler who enjoyed saying hello to the chickens, sheep and horses every morning! We didn’t get chance to sample the cooked breakfast that you can order but thought it was a fabulous addition and hope to enjoy it next time we visit! We didn’t want to drive once we had arrived and so were really pleased to find some beautiful walks directly from the farm, staff were so helpful to give us guidance on the best routes - we enjoyed the circular walk from the farm but split it into two days as we had a small toddler! The pine forest is stunning with access to it from the farm! The location is incredibly peaceful and relaxing! The phone reception is also excellent

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Fabulous location, glorious views and good facilities.

Disliked: Minor points only. Single track road of 1.5 miles on approach with not many passing places. Showers could have been a little cleaner. We were unsure where reception was as the sign was obscured. It is in the farmhouse! Elsan disposal would have been useful.

From the manager: Hi thanks for taking the time to write this review. We are glad you enjoyed our beautiful location, glorious views & good facilities. Yes we are on a single track road for 1.5 miles. We have no less than 17 passing places on our road, maybe you missed seeing them all. The reception has a huge welcome sign above the door as well as other signage we have not had any problems in the past with guests being unable to find it. Cleanliness of shower block. We pride ourselves on our lovely clean facilities most of our other reviews mention how clean they are. If there was a problem then it would have been nice if you could have come across and mentioned any problems and they would then have been sorted immediately. We are a tent & small campervan site only who provide excellent shower & toilet facilities, Elsan disposal is not something we have ever been asked to supply in 16 years of running our campsite. Many thanks Mary

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: A lovely warm & informative welcome. Beautiful views from either field & so so peaceful. Well maintained, clean shower & toilet facilities. The kitchen area was a nice touch too. Additionally, there were picnic tables and fire pits (recycled washing machine drums) for each pitch too - it's just the little things that can make a difference. Would definitely recommend this campsite. Oh, and the hearty homemade cooked breakfast was definitely worth the money too.

Local attractions

This is such an excellent area for all sorts of outdoor activities, and the views and scenery are pretty spectacular too… Woodbatch Camping and Glamping is surrounded by an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways to wander and canter, and is close to Kerry Ridgeway, Offa's Dyke, the Jack Mytton Way, the B.C. Ring and the Long Mynd. The Shropshire Way and the Blue Remembered Hills bridleways pass through the farmyard. Bishop's Castle, dating back to the eighth century and King Offa, is five minutes' drive or about 50 minutes' walk away: there's quite a bit to find out about local history in this locale and along Offa's Dyke, and these days the town has a busy market, large cattle and sheep market, and little shops along the high street selling local produce. Church Stretton, Ludlow and Shrewsbury are all within easy reach, as are quite a few castles and quite a lot more splendid scenery. You could also take a look at Acton Scott Victorian Farm, Blists Hill Victorian Town, the hill of Stiperstones and the aircraft and exhibitions of the RAF base at Cosford.
