  • Small, peaceful site with outstanding scenery in a countryside setting
  • Spacious dog-friendly pitches a 20-minute drive from the Meres
  • Vintage bikes for hire; afternoon teas and pizzas available on site
Fancy a vintage voyage? Then pull on your gaiters, set your pipe firmly between your teeth and pedal off towards Abbey Green Farm, a peaceful site in the unchanging Shropshire countryside: they’ll even rent you a 1940s bicycle so you can explore it in proper style. Adding to the stillness, the well-tended and classically English gardens attract a variety of birds and insects to the site: how about taking it all in over afternoon tea served on your pitch as you admire the Shropshire countryside...? Other foodie options include afternoon teas and farmhouse pizzas – again served to your pitch. If you have an urge for DIY dining, barbecues are allowed on site and there are shops and supermarkets in nearby Wem and Whitchurch, 10 and 20 minutes’ drive away. Alternatively, get your best tweed knickerbockers on and cycle the two miles to the Bull and Dog pub for local ales and hot fresh food.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring caravan pitch

Liked: Small and owners very personable. Clean and tidy - toilet and shower block as clean as any en-suite I know. Afternoon tea and Pizza available for delivery to your pitch (although we didn't partake in that).

Disliked: Our pitch (12)was a bit boggy although plenty of hay available to cover any muddy bits.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Wow! Such a lovely site, beautiful setting on a farm, accessed by a lot of little lanes, making it seem really remote to get away from it all. Superb facilities - very clean and modern showers/toilets and washing area in their own little outhouse and also a lovely little canopied seating area. A really friendly welcome and the added bonus of being able to order cream and afternoon teas (served in beautiful china teasets),and pizzas elevated this site even more. Friendly owners were always around if needed, but never intrusive.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We had a fantastic time here despite having rain every day. The owners are friendly and accommodating. The site is beautiful, well away from main roads so vey quiet and dark at night and the pitches are level. The bathrooms are amazing. If you’re looking for a small, quiet site to get away from it all I would definitely recommend.

Local attractions

Whixall Nature Reserve, a 20-minute drive away, is one of the last few lowland raised bogs left in the British Isles and as such it’s home to a menagerie of birdlife along with some rather prehistoric sights, such as carnivorous sundew, adders (wear your boots) and six-inch water-skating raft spiders. The nearby Meres – lakes and wetlands formed at the end of the Ice Age – are all between 20 and 25 minutes away and make for fine walks and nature spotting: birdwatchers come from all over the country to Wood Lane Nature Reserve, next to Ellesmere, to spot avocets, lapwings and sandpipers. It's around an hour to the Shropshire Hills' Carding Mill Valley for yomps up heather-blanketed slopes, waterfalls and views towards the Black Mountains. Alternatively, report to Llangollen (45 minutes) for rides on the steam railway and down the canal, and it's a similar distance to walk the ‘stream in the sky’, otherwise known as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. If you’re more into country houses, visit the eccentric tangle of statues, grottoes, bridges and tunnels created by various owners of Hawkstone Park Follies (15 minutes), or wander the 640 acres of country surrounding 18th-century Attingham Park, dotted with Iron Age and Roman ruins, half an hour away.
