Pitches are in the middle of a huge field - too much like a rally for us. (added by sammi_r 05 jul 2022)

  • Simple site at a country park with rural walks all around
  • In Cambridgeshire countryside bordered by the River Nene
  • Bordering the villages of Yarwell and Nassington
After a calm spot in the Cambridgeshire countryside? Make tracks to the pitches at Yarwell Mill Country Park, on the banks of the River Nene and close to some great spots for walks and watersports. Facilities here are hassle-free: toilets are well lit at night, and there's also a washing-up area. The village of Yarwell is on the edge of the park for real ale and pub grub at the Angel Inn; for self-catering supplies, there are plenty of shops in Stamford (15 minutes' drive) and Peterborough (20 minutes).

Liked: Beautiful countryside, river and friendliness of welcoming receptionist and the cafe. Lovely walks around although a very wet weekend.

Disliked: Ablution facilities and areas appeared like a building site.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Stunning location. Beautiful site. Good facilities - toilet and shower set-up. Staff incredibly helpful, lovely, friendly and attentive. Lovely 10 mins walk to the Angel Inn in the village down the road (fantastic, quirky pub!). We look forwerd to returning at some point. Great pitch for motorhome.

Disliked: Only a small thing but could've done with benches and hooks in the shower areas as opposed to a single chair - not enough room for bags, towels, clothes, toiletries etc when also getting ready with children.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very welcoming person at reception… electric pitch plus clean portacabin facilities block with individual shower/basin/toilet cubicle which was good… the mill was beautiful. Very local pub in Yarwell - The Angel was eclectic, welcoming, cosy and very individual - now my favourite pub! Well worth a visit even if you don’t camp :)

Disliked: Campsite on the grounds of a residential static home site which had loud music playing (Saturday night) At the time of visit the site had a lot of debris and rubble from construction. Many of the caravans on the camp site side looked quite shabby, like they’d been there for decades and a bit unloved/dirty and weeds grown around them which was a bit off putting. I will add here that the static homes were brand new and immaculate positioned around a lake which was very pretty.

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay here with us Yarwell Mill Country Park. Our caravaners who live on site and also our Seasonal pitches are responsible for their own surrounding grounds around the caravan. We do cut the grass as close as we are able, this is done by our groundstaff - unfortunately due to the heavy rainfall we have had in the last few weeks this has not been possible. The music was from the Angel pub in Yarwell who had an event on in the gardens surrounding the pub not from the site, no music is allowed on the park after 10.30pm - this is in the site rules. We do hope you will visit us again in the future. Kind regards,

Liked: There is a small cafe open from about 10.30 am to 4 pm. You can paddle board or float around on inflatables in the river. (At your own risk) nice showers/toilets. Lovely walks nearby.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Riverside pitches are very nice, good space between each other.

Disliked: Pitches in middle of field seemed very strange as so much empty space surrounding them. Also some of riverside pitches had view of lake blocked by huge mound of earth.

Local attractions

Bring your boots: the countryside surrounding Yarwell Mill and Yarwell village is packed with scenic walks and quiet villages to explore, including Wansford and Nassington, and the historic town of Stamford is six miles away with its timber-framed buildings, medieval churches and 17th- and 18th-century stone buildings to point the camera at. The 117-mile Nene Way passes through Peterborough and also takes in the ancient market town of Oundle, 12 miles to the south west; the Sulehay Nature Reserve, covering walks around the ancient forest of Sulehay, the Stonepit Quarry and the woods and fields of Ring Haw is just to the west of Yarwell (there’s some parking at the entrance to the forest on the Wansford to Yarwell road). For resting your feet, jump onto the Nene Valley Steam Railway, which has been puffing along since 1845 and which runs for seven and a half miles along the river; join it at Wansford for the girder bridge trip across the Nene or go loco and book a Driver Experience. Then track along to the historic village of Fotheringhay, said by a historian to have ‘been distinguished beyond any other place in Britain, except the Capital, by the aggravated misfortunes of Royalty’; Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabethan Elizabeth are just two blue-blooded types associated with the village, although Liz was slightly luckier in that she wasn’t executed at Fotheringhay Castle. Potter in and around Peterborough too for heaps of historical highlights such as 17th-century Elton Hall, the medieval manor house Longthorpe Hall and the Grade I listed Thorpe Hall. Or, you could decide to be thoroughly contrary and modern and book a skydive at Peterborough’s Sibson Airfield.
