  • Traditional family site near Dereham, in meadows around a working farm
  • Wildlife haven with woodland and plenty of space, away from main roads
  • Heated shower and toilet block, launderette and hairdryers
Your fledglings should love this farm site – and those in charge of the flock are very likely to agree. Park Farm Camping near Dereham in Norfolk is simple, affordable and no-frills… but doesn’t skimp on the amenities either: the heated shower and toilet block even has free hairdryers in the ladies for those of you who like to keep barnets shipshape at all times. The site is managed by Julie and Derek, who run the place as a traditional and safe site for small fry and their tribes: it’s in meadows around a working farm, with wildlife all around and farm animals to see in the next field. There’s heaps of space even in the height of summer for all the herd (including the dog) to run around, as well as a wood to explore and a small play area to swing around – with everything secluded away from main roads for chicks to be safely free range. All this, and campfires are allowed too. Other creature comforts at Park Farm include a launderette, free wifi, public phone and a shop to pick up essentials. Off site, a pub, deli, village shop, bakery, post office, grocer and butcher are all in Swanton Morley a couple of minutes’ drive away.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The site owner was a lovely, very helpful chap. Check in was a breeze. The site itself is heaven a vast open field for tent campers all pitched around the perimeter, with plenty of space in between pitches. The facilities were always clean, and the hot showers were a delight. It's perfectly placed for discovering everything Norfolk has to offer. There's a wonderful butchers less than a minute from site, together with a fairly priced local shop. The icing on the cake being a dog friendly pub again, by the butchers and shop. All the locals were super friendly. I will be a regular at Park Farm for years to come, I just wished I hadn't been recalled back to work, I could have stayed there for weeks!

Disliked: Nothing!

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: The site is very quiet and peaceful and the pitch was a nice size and well maintained. We had a very nice welcome and the manager was helpful and accommodating. There is a nice pub 20 mins walk in the village which serves lovely food. The washing up areas were nice and clean. We had good WIFI but phone signal patchy. Not an issue for us though. It was a good location for us to visit different coastal areas like Hunstanton, Gorlestone etc. Will be back.

Disliked: The water in the showers were painfully hot and the temperature cannot be controlled. Its was a very hot week so was a bit of an issue. The manager did his best to solve the issue but without much luck.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: thank you for your 10 star review, ref shower temperature we have at last managed to get the shower temps down , it was caused by a faulty temp control valve which has been replaced .

Lovely area, welcoming owners, dog friendly and spacious pitches.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely area to stay, owners were very welcoming and had fire pits to lend out.

Disliked: Toilets were average. Could’ve been abit cleaner.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: thank you, ref toilets with the amount of people and foot traffic it was almost impossible to keep the levels of upkeep to our usual standards, would be nice if clients did their bit to help keep them clean instead of abusing them.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The site was clean, the facilities were good and the kids enjoyed the play park

Disliked: The site advertised a pool but nit wasn't operational. I cannot believe I'm writing this but the shower were too hot so we struggled shower the kids. One final little thing the washing up area could really do with a bin for food scraps

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: sorry about the splash pool We did manage to get the 2nd pool up and running in time for the August bank holiday after the original sprung leaks and ruptured an air seam. Food scrap bins have been attended to. Also, we have turned down the water temperature after several complaints about the temperature and found it was a faulty valve sorry.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Site was clean (no litter). Playground for kids. Location for visiting other areas in Norfolk was ok. Darby’s pub in Swanton Morley was brilliant. Great food, outdoor seating with pizza oven and bar and a playground for kids

Disliked: The 2 bed caravan we stayed in is old and well past its best days. It’s had a layer of white paint over everything that makes it look a lot nicer in the photos than the reality. Broken locks on windows, dirty stained sofas, holes in the floor around the poorly installed toilet. Broken handles in shower. Shower ran hot/cold when in use. It had been cleaned, but there were still used make up wipes and rubbish under the beds in the 2nd bedroom. Kitchen was very clean though. The WiFi doesn’t work and there is no mobile signal. This made planning activities very difficult (impossible to check opening times of attractions/ book tickets/weather/ anything…) and communicating with family staying on site impossible once one of you had left site. Pitch up should remove WiFi as a facility that this site offers. The ladies shower block had one shower that dribbled and one better one but no hooks for towels/clothes in that one. Showers far too hot for young children. Toilets regularly ran out of toilet paper. These things could be sorted for minimal expense and effort and gives the impression that the managers/owners aren’t bothered. There are people clearly living on site all year round. And also very loud music from Hunters Hall until the early hours. If you have your own caravan, it is a cheap site for a service pitch but wouldn’t recommend staying in their onsite accommodation or camping.

From the manager: Err What the heck can I say about this complete assignation of our site and facilities, Why are people so 2 faced when checking out client stated had a great time. We can do nothing about the mobile telephone networks. Our free WI-FI does work but when you get ultra-heavy loadings the system will slow right down at one point we had 85 connections on our systems which is above and beyond what the system is designed for. with reference to the showers, the temperatures have been sorted see a previous comment. Toilet rolls are 300 meters long and if people are taking handfuls of paper for other uses what can we do except check them regularly during busy periods? All in All this review has the smacks of an assignation on our business as a whole. And no you will never be welcome to come back.

Local attractions

Use Park Farm Camping as a base to explore north Norfolk and Norwich, or stay close to home and explore the paths and lanes for walking and pedalling around the Wensum Valley: leaflets and brochures on acres’ worth of visitor attractions are at the Park Farm reception. The River Wensum is on the edge of the farm estate with free fishing for Park Farm Camping guests on the two miles where the river flows through nearby Castle Farm (not available during season from 16 March-16 June), or cast off at the Norfolk coast about half an hour away to try your luck at landing mackerel, bass and cod. You could pick a beach or seaside town to drive to every day of your holiday at Park Farm: seal-spotting boat trips from Morston and Blakeney as well as swishing around somewhat swanky Wells-next-the-Sea and Burnham Market (aka Chelsea-on-Sea) are all within 40 minutes' drive. Within 50, make for the Pleasure Beach (and racecourse) at Great Yarmouth or the crabbing, funfair and zoo at Cromer, both top picks to seaside antics. Other eclectic options within accessible reach of Park Farm Camping include padding around Liz II’s pad at royal Sandringham and other old houses like Holkham Hall: both are around 45 minutes away. Norwich is 25 minutes from the site.
