  • Luxurious glamping on a five-acre field, on a parkland estate
  • Small friendly site with acres of space to run around
  • Flushing toilets and plenty of hot water
How to sleep under the stars in cosy comfort isn't a puzzle at Riddlesworth Park... it's a family-friendly glamping site on a working farm, with yurts spread over a five-acre field and secreted securely and safely in a car-free space well away from the main road. Snoozing among nature is no conundrum either: Riddlesworth is set on the old parkland of Riddlesworth Hall Estate, in the Breckland area of the Norfolk/Suffolk border and surrounded by farm and woodland. It's run by Lou and Ben, who took the area over when it was still used for agricultural production and now are returning it to its original parkland. They've sown a native wild grass mix and replanted hedges and trees to encourage the natural diversity of local plants and wildlife and to create a changing landscape for guests throughout the seasons – all sounds bloomin' good... Each yurt at Riddlesworth Park sits in its own one-acre space. The site facilities include flushing toilets and hot showers, an undercover area with dishwashing sinks, and camping provisions and a few extras for sale in the honesty shop. Optional breakfast hampers using fresh local produce are available on request.

Local attractions

As it's niftily set on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Riddlesworth Park is in nifty locale to scout around both counties. The acres of farmland and countryside walks nearby include Knettishall Heath less than a mile away, which gives access to the Peddars Way, the 46-mile footpath from the Heath to the Norfolk Coast Path at Holme-next-the-Sea and following the ancient route of a Roman road. Townwise, nearby medieval market town Bury St Edmunds's comely cathedral, Greene King brewery and Abbey Gardens are good options for a day trip – if you're off Burywise for the day, be sure to take the opportunity for cryptic social media messages telling all back home that you're off to see a pillar of salt. (You'll see what that means when you get there.) Among the many many other items to include on an East Anglia holiday agenda, consider boating on the Broads, marketing in Norwich, seeing the beach chalets at Southwold, wandering around Mildenhall, Little Saxham and Ickworth from Bury St Edmunds, and dressing up in period costume at West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village.
