  • Family park near the north Norfolk coast, three miles from Sheringham
  • Walkers' paradise with easy access to wide uncrowded beaches
  • Playground, clubhouse, lounge bar, family bar and shop
Take your wheels along for scenic stays in a peaceful coastal setting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at Woodlands Caravan Park, set up for tourers, campervans and motorhomes as a smart modern site with stacks to do for all ages. When you’re not out and about venturing around the Norfolk coast and inland – famed Sheringham beach is three miles away from here and both Norwich and the Broads within easy reach for day trips – the park is a comfy base to keep all fed, watered and entertained. There’s a big and enclosed play area with climbing frames, swings and slides; the site also has plenty of room to run around if energy levels are still high afterwards. Options await when it’s time to refuel: a lounge bar for adults with an additional family area, and a clubhouse serving pizzas to eat in or take away (the bar also has regular entertainment on a Saturday night in peak season). The site shop sells groceries and ice cream as well as newspapers and camping bits and pieces; gas and electric barbecues are allowed (no charcoal constructions, ta). Amenities include a well-maintained shower and toilet block with disabled facilities, baby changing and underfloor heating. Woodland is firmly dog friendly too: your dogs can accompany you free of charge. It's also based on a bus route, making transport easy.

Liked: Lovely site, the facilities were very clean, and wonderful friendly staff the clubhouse was very nice and although did not partake, offered pizza , freshly cooked, the weather was a little inclement with heavy rain in the night, which made getting off our pitch a little difficult, with our motorhome on the day of departure, however a quick visit to the office, explaining our plight, a phone call was made to our knight in shining armour with his truck to pull us of the pitch , we were so very grateful, the bus service from outside of the park was wonderful and made our getting around very easy without having to move the motorhome at all, and of course, as we know have a bus pass was all the more enjoyable. Will book again, as we enjoyed our time there very much

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Not a lot but friendly welcoming staff and the toilet and shower facilities were very clean, modern and warm.

Disliked: Where to start? Following all the recent rain and storms I called ahead before travelling to ask about ground conditions and was told “fine”. On arrival it obviously wasn’t as evidence showed lots of tracks in the mud where previous tourers had struggled getting out. A neighbouring guest confirmed there had been some ‘issues’ with people being stuck. As a result I had to re-level the van during our stay as it was gradually sinking into the mud all the time… Ok the site can’t do anything about the weather and there was lots of rain again during our stay but had we been advised of ground conditions truthfully we may have reconsidered the visit. Having 2 dogs with us, the constant in and out with mud and the saturated ground made for a very frustrating few days. On hooking up, the electric constantly tripped - neighbour again said it is a constant problem with the site - can’t run 2 appliances together. Another guest commented the same and said he had to turn everything off to boil a kettle. Site people checked the supply then suggested there might be an issue with our van - which was strange as we’ve had no such problems on other sites, including a few days out just a couple of weeks before… We were staying with our daughter and baby granddaughter - no heating or fridge if we used the kettle or microwave so had to resort to a gas camping kettle and run the fridge and heating at night on gas as well - not acceptable when we were supposedly paying for the power which constantly tripped out even under the lightest use. The site people said they run 10amp hookups and our hookup had obviously seen a lot of better days - not suitable to feed a modern caravan these days with all the tech and appliances. The whole supply looks like it needs an upgrade? We booked the dates for half term week so that our daughter could visit with us but could only do that week as she is a teacher. We normally do adult only sites and our visit to Woodlands confirmed why we prefer them! Ok - it’s half term so expect lots of kids but why do parents (and the site?) allow them to chase round into the dark hours on bikes screaming and shouting around neighbouring vans? No doubt parents enjoying the bar while kids out of sight perhaps… Ironically the signage on the large and adequate play and games area asks parents to be responsible for their children - maybe the same should be applied around the whole park? As a dog owner we are asked to respect other guests - and we do. Why can’t those with kids do the same? In all - not a pleasant stay, which is a shame as we love the area and enjoy visiting Sheringham. We’ll definitely give Woodlands a miss and be exploring other options in future!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Large site, excellent facilities, warm and clean shower block. Hook up next to plot, plenty of water stations. Large bar area and play area. Good laundry facilities.

Disliked: A lot of the touring plots are on a slope, so park near the top and it’s pretty flat.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: My children loved the park. Fantastic walks for miles on the doorstep. Toilets always warm and clean. Plenty of water points. Bins emptied regularly. All facilities 5*

Disliked: My one negative is the Pizza’s/chips weren’t great, definitely frozen (I’d guess Chicago town tomato stuffed crust) which is a shame considering they are less than £4 in Tesco and the are being sold for £13. Took 35 minutes and they were still undercooked.

Local attractions

This handsome part of Norfolk is part of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, home to swathes of uncrowded beaches for family days, dog walks, watersports and nature spotting. The closest beaches are Sheringham, 35 minutes' walk away, and Cromer (15 minutes' drive), both also home to historic seaside towns drawing visitors to Norfolk seaside hols since Victorian times. Birdwatchers and nature spotters are well placed too: species of all sorts can be spotted around the area as well as at Sheringham and Cromer. The National Trust’s Blakeney National Nature Reserve, 20 minutes’ drive away, is a fine spot to start your ornithological exploits, at its four miles of shingle, sand dunes, mudflats and salt marshes; also try birdwatching around the Cley Marshes (start at the visitor centre in Cley next the Sea, 15 minutes’ drive away), and the Salthouse Marshes a couple of miles east of Cley. For adventures further afield, the shopping, sightseeing, visitor attractions and restaurants of Norwich are 50 minutes away, and the waterways and more wildlife of the Broads within 40.
