  • Luxury shepherd's hut; exclusive use of tree-lined, two-acre site
  • 45 minutes to Norfolk Broads National Park and Suffolk Heritage Coast
  • Double bed, heating, microwave, fridge and field kitchen with barbecue
If you like your retreats to come with a bit of luxury and privacy – such treats as heating, a private bathroom and two acres of space to yourself – stop the search and pack your bags for a trip to Primrose Paddock. At this small, family-run site in rural Suffolk, 10 minutes' drive from Eye, you’ll have exclusive use of a heated shepherd's hut set in its own tree-lined paddock. The owners' aim is to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible, so they've equipped the hut with lots of little home comforts like a double bed with clean linen, a kitchenette (with microwave, kettle, fridge and crockery), mains electricity and USB charging points. The practicalities continue in the outside field kitchen – the sheltered area has a barbecue, gas cooker and Dutch oven to aid with rustling up home-cooked meals, and there’s a washing-up area too. The shower and loo are in a separate cabin. With all that to play with, you may choose to spend a good chunk of time chilling out at base – and it would be a wise choice. The surrounding meadow is full of wildflowers and the site is home to lots of wildlife, including woodpeckers, deer and plenty of rabbits. There are hens too, so guests can tuck in to free-range eggs for brekkie. If you do want to nose around the local area and pick up supplies, Primrose Paddock is close to lots of good places to eat and drink, and there’s a village shop a mile away in Horham.

A walk around the pretty gardens at Helmingham Hall (25 minutes) can be topped off with a cuppa and treat in the tearoom. Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: Very rural Suffolk. The peace and quiet was wonderful and i was undisturbed during my stay. The Shepherds Hut was clean and had a rustic charm. The bed was very comfortable and i slept well. Lovely to have the kettle within the hut as well as a toaster but you do have to go to the outside kitchen for water and cups etc. The bathroom was a bit of a trot from the Hut but was spotless and the shower worked well. There is no hot water at the sink though. There is plenty of space to walk around/sit and if the weather is good like it was when i was there it's a great 'get away from it all' space. Fires are permitted but logs are not supplied. Overall i would recommend for a relaxing break.

Disliked: No cooking oils or condiments in the kitchen as advertised. No hot water at the bathroom sink. The big dead spiders in the kitchen sink that obviously can't be helped.

Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: Everything! I could have stayed for a week. The dogs absolutely loved the paddock, the facilities and privacy were first class for glamming. I found everything I needed and the shower was better than at home! Jayne and Seb were welcoming and really thoughtful. It was a hot couple of days and they bought up ice, doggy paddling pool and picked up insect repellent as the heat had bought the mosquitos out in force.

Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: What can I say apart from WOW!!! This place was everything and more. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights (and our plus 1, Phoebe the Cavapoo) and were blown away with how equipped the facilities were. Everything was on hand and provided by the hosts from bedding and towels to cups plates and cutlery, even BBQ coals and Firewood. The tranquil surroundings were perfect for us to reset and recharge. Just a short 10-15min drive are plenty of great pubs if you fancied a dine out. Highly recommend The Four Horseshoes. Already miss out new favourite place.

Disliked: Nothing

Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay. It's such a beautiful setting and having the whole meadow and facilities to ourselves was a real boon. The meadow is full of wild flowers and surrounded by trees and the sound of birdsong. Enjoyed cosy nights round the fire and the BBQ (charcoal provided) with produce from a local butcher. Loved the well equipped field kitchen and the comfy bed plus the clean hot shower cabin with loo and sink. If you're looking for a lovely big space to unwind and just relax surrounded by natural beauty, then this is the place for you. We also thought it was very good value for money.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing.

Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: Had the most wonderful weekend in Primrose Paddock. With a private setting, more than spacious cabin (super comfy bed, good amenities and heating for the chilly nights) and ALL the amenities you could need with the exterior kitchen and camping area - it really ticked every single box! Was clean, comfortable, and the toilet standard was exceptional which is always a treat for trips like these. My partner and i had the best time, celebrating his birthday and our engagement, which Seb and Jayne made sure was extra special for us. Highly recommend!

Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: So many thoughtful details. The plot was very private and quiet. Bedding was lovely for great Nights sleep. Absolutely loved the outdoors kitchen- I want one at home now! I would definitely stay again.

Disliked: Field wasn’t completely fenced off meaning when my dogs are loose, they explore and end up in the landlady’s own garden, where they’re not allowed to be.

Buttercup shepherd's hut

Liked: Lovely location for sightseeing but also remote enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. Friendly and helpful hosts and the facilities are excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and it was everything we needed to relax. The kitchen is well stocked, the bathroom spotless and the hut is just wonderful. Super comfy bed, the oil radiator was useful at night and a toaster and kettle for breakfast in bed. You are completely on your own with no other huts or campers meaning you can relax around the campfire without any disturbances. We would definitely recommend and will visit again.
