  • Quiet and family-friendly eco site set out as a wildlife garden
  • Well placed for the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside and coast
  • Eggs, apple juice and other local produce available for sale
Green Haven Camping has a greatly convenient setting, just the ticket for investigating the best of the Suffolk and Norfolk countryside – and an easy drive from the Suffolk seaside at Southwold and among market towns, heaps of hikes and plenty of good English pubs. The owners of this eco site are developing it as a wildlife garden where people can pitch rather than a formally laid out site, to make a relaxing and secluded environment for camping. The camping area is in a field with grass kept long between pitches and along the site path, and plenty of native hedging and plants have been added to create hidden habitats for wildlife (and guests). To help with the peaceful vibe, the parking area is kept separate from the pitches and cars can tow their caravans on and off the site. A garden trolley is provided for you to cart your tent and kit to your pitch. (The parking area is only a few metres from the camping area, but if this might be an issue for you, let the Green Haven team know in the 'Special requests' box when you book.) Green Haven has a modern, clean and airy unisex toilet block with underfloor heating, wash facilities and showers, and a covered washing-up area. The toilets are flushed with harvested rainwater and much of the electricity on the Green Haven site is generated by their own field-mounted solar panels. There are also good recycling and composting facilities, as guests are encouraged to produce as little landfill waste as poss. The site also has a small reception area with lots of info on what to see and do all around, and its own eggs, apple juice and other local produce available for sale as well as camping supplies. Orders can be taken for fresh milk supplies and a nearby dairy provides yoghurts, butter and ice creams. A friendly pub is just up the road. Green Haven want guests to have as great a time as possible and are always making new developments, so if you have any comments or suggestions, just let them know when you stay.

Liked: Clean, warm toilet and shower facilities. Friendly, informative owner who is welcoming upon arrival and when leaving. The site is well kept and in keeping with working alongside nature and wildlife habitats , lots of hedgerows and trees with longer grass in the right areas. Great pub a short walk away too. We plan return to Green Haven.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Nice, quiet site. The facilities were adequate for camping, very clean and looked after. There is an honesty shop with a few supplies in case you need anything. We were met by Katherine and she was very helpful and friendly. During our stay we were able to visit Dunwich Heath, Southwold, Leiston Abbey and Leiston. All within about 20 mins to 30 mins drive. The camp site was within walking distance of a pub and there was a co-op in Halesworth for shopping.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're pleased you found our site clean, tidy, quiet and relaxing. We're sorry that our location perhaps wasn't what you expected. We're just 25 minutes from Southwold (& other wonderful parts of the Suffolk Coast), 10 minutes from the lovely market town of Halesworth, 15 minutes from Bungay and 20 minutes from Beccles. The Rumburgh Buck pub is just over a 5 minute walk away. There are many great walks and accessible footpaths from the campsite gate We have kept our prices as low as possible. We believe we are one of the best value campsites in the area. A number of repeat visitors this year have said to us that they return because of this, and that there are other campsites they no longer stay at because their prices have inflated so much. We are working hard to keep our small business going, whilst giving campers a memorable, affordable holiday.

Liked: This is a peaceful site managed well for people and wildlife. The solar system works well, recycling is clear and the facilities are clean well maintained. The 50p showers allow plenty of time - enough to share as a couple or family - whilst also meaning water isn't wasted. The undercover outdoor washing up is great and the fridge/freezer availability and honesty shop are a lovely touch. We will certainly be back.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The quietness of the site. The owners were very friendly & chatty. No cars driving round the site. Vodafone 4G worked all the time. Nice clean facilities, particularly liked the fact they are unisex so I could help my husband. Never had to wait for showers or toilets. The little shop was great but couldn't buy any ice cream, crisps or chocolate as we go to fat club! 😔 but we did have a treat on the Friday ordered Chelsea buns. Easy to get to Southwold, kessingland & Gt Yarmouth.

Disliked: Didn't like the length of the grass but then found out the mower was being repaired, came back one afternoon & it was all cut & looked great.

Liked: Everything! This was such a lovely site in a great location and with lovely friendly hosts too. Never having been to Suffolk before we loved the site, the countryside, not far from the coast, and we had a tremendous week of hot weather for September. Couldn't recommend this site more! Great value too.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great family run setup. Really surprised at site great toilet and amenities block alot of effort gone in local suppliers of food and drinks , and fridge freezer use for customers was a good touch. Ample space on grassed pitches.

Disliked: Noisy large family group but Catherine is onto that for future bookings.

Local attractions

Stick to gentle countryside or beach strolls, or pootle along to more formal attractions like Sutton Hoo and the castles at Framlingham and Orford. The city of Norwich is about 45 minutes away. The beaches of the Suffolk coast including Southwold, Aldeburgh and Lowestoft are half an hour or less away and are popular days out in the area for Lowestoft Lighthouse and the most easterly part of the UK at Nees Point; the famed Southwold beach chalets and pier, and festivals and the arts centre Snape Maltings at Aldeburgh. Birdwatching buffs can take their binoculars to nearby RSPB Minsmere, or to Walberswick, to spy specimens among the heath and marshlands. The latter has a good beach for crabbing too – and you might also catch sight of a celebrity resident in the surrounds: rich peeps live here… The Broads of Norfolk and Suffolk are a main draw for visitors to this part of England and a boat trip along their 120 miles or so of waterways is very much a must. Wildlife and fishing trips are also easy to arrange. Dunwich and Beccles are a mere two of the villages and market towns around the region: leaf through the tourist brochures at Green Haven to find details of these and of local walks, swimming, horse riding, heaths and gardens to see.
