  • Seaside family park 15 minutes' drive from Lowestoft
  • Access to lots of sporting and watersports activities
  • Spa, sports bar, pools, adventure playground, bar and restaurant
Starland Krew and sandcastles for the munchkins, a spa bath, a sports bar, and fish and chip-fuelled smiles all round… guests can pick and mix from a vast menu of family activities at Kessingland Beach Holiday Park, on the gorgeous Suffolk coast just north of the Benacre National Nature Reserve and 15 minutes' drive from Lowestoft. Guests at this seaside site have access to great sports and watersports facilities, playing all sorts of games at the multisports court, shooting down the waterslide into the indoor pool, splashing about in the open-air pool or wallowing contentedly in the adjacent hot tub. For the under-11s, the kids' clubs have activities to please sporty, arty and smartypants types alike and there’s an undercover play area and an outdoor adventure playground too, with a zipwire for the intrepid and swings and slides for those who prefer more placid playtime. Whatever activity you select can be followed up by gathering all ages for something from the frisky programme of family entertainment for the evenings. Aside from the chippy and other takeaway food, the on-site Boathouse bar and restaurant serves up a good range of grub. Go on, have that pudding – there’s a lovely beach right outside where you can stroll it all off.

Electric grass pitch (large)

Liked: Amenities were ok and the location for the beach and the staff were helpful

Disliked: We were given our pitch which was under water due to the storm the previous night, would have thought they would have moved us as it was not budy

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Quiet at night

Disliked: Pitches too small and far too close together also very muddy. Toilet block was inadequate for the number of pitches the floor was always wet and it was not very clean. It appears that no thought or consideration is given to campers and tourers. Public buildings old and tired pool closed most of the time. This is the second Parkdean we have pitched in and the second time we have been disappointed.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Location is good and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Guy cutting the grass on lawnmower for two hours. Surely do that before we have to check in? We couldn't check in till two but then still had to listen to his racket of a machine.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Site was very clean. Shower block was cleaned twice a day, be careful though as floor was wet & slippery. Facilities for washing up & grey waste available. Boatman bar have special offers on meals, breakfast was good. Also, nice pub up the road for good food (fish & chips good, piece of fish was massive).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The staff where always friendly and welcoming. The entertainment even though it was the end of the season - was high energy

Disliked: The female shower room always looked dirty and unhygienic. The floor was always flooded with water coming from the ground (possible leak) and this made the flooring raised with large water bubbles. Also the outside pool need a paint job to refresh it as it's looking outdated

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Loved it was so close to the beach.

Disliked: Only 1 communal toilet/showers which were far away from where we was staying and the floors had water everywhere (slip hazard) beach is very stoney... get yourself some beach shoes even in the sea lol not a lot around and show bar is expensive. Our food in restaurant wasn't great but maybe it was just ours

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: I will come again, the pitches were well maintained and roomy.

Disliked: The toilet and shower block is I feel, not placed for campers who need it most. The out door pool was lovely but a little too hot on a day like Friday 8th and Saturday 9th. It would work just as well at 25 degrees and not the 30 plus

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We’ve paid a lot more for a lot less in the past. For the money we paid (£17) for an overnight grass pitch, with electricity, we found the facilities and staff to be excellent. The shower block was clean as were the toilets and washing up area. The outdoor heated pool was great in the sun. The evening entertainments (singing/bingo/games) was fantastic, as were the two on-site bars and restaurant. Did not try the on-site chippy, but it looked great. There’s also a very well stocked Nisa shop on-site and their prices are very reasonable. All staff we encountered, from check-in to the bars, etc, were extremely helpful and friendly. We also arrived an hour early so we spent some time on the beach which is adjacent to the campsite, and it’s terrific. Then reception allowed but they allowed us to check in an hour early, no charge. Bring honest the 10am check out is a little early, but we coped. This is an old school holiday park, with all sorts of people, from all backgrounds staying here, we met some others the day we stayed and we all had the best night out in the on-site club/bar. We just loved it because it took us back to the 80/90s (in a good way). And we’d say generally quiet for the most part, but we stayed just outside the school holidays, and we could see how it might get lively at times, because the pitches are very close to one another. But remember, only £17 per night, incl electricity (as of Sept 2023), outstanding value considering all the facilities on offer. Will definitely return.

Local attractions

The nearby seaside towns of Lowestoft (15 minutes' drive) and Southwold (20 minutes) are among the most charming in the country: think fab family beaches, candy-coloured beach huts, piers and proms, plus buckets and spades of old-school charm. Aim for the former if you're after a bit of watersports action, or pick the latter for chi-chi shops, a zany pier attraction and seafront walks to Walberswick. Swap beaches for beasties with family outings to see the exotic beasts roaming the plains of Suffolk at Africa Alive! (five minutes), or seek out seahorses, sharks and penguins at Sea Life Great Yarmouth (35 minutes). For wildlife of a more local variety, nip up to the waterways of the Norfolk Broads (half an hour) where you can become captain of your own boat for the day (or take a tour if you're unsure of your navigational expertise…) For family fun on a grand scale, head to Pleasurewood Family Theme Park (25 minutes); at the opposite end of the spectrum is the tiny townscape at Merrivale Model Village (35 minutes). And somewhere in the middle is the swish Victorian pad at Somerleyton Hall (half an hour), where both mansion and gardens are worth a stroll.
