  • Grass pitches at an adults-only Suffolk holiday park near Saxmundham
  • A 20-minute drive to Aldeburgh beach; 25 minutes to Orford Castle
  • Entertainment, fishing, a pool and fitness suite on site
Occupying a quiet corner of a Suffolk holiday park 10 minutes' drive from Saxmundham, the spacious grass pitches at the adults-only Lonely Farm provide peace by the bucketload as well as all the advantages of the park’s facilities. And what facilities they are: with not one but two fishing lakes on site, this is a splendid spot for keen anglers, and there’s plenty more to lure you in too. On high-season weekends (March to October), you’ll be kept entertained by free activities and events, and when the weather is behaving, you can get out on the tennis court. Keep up your exercise regime (if you must) in the fitness suite, or swim a few laps of the heated indoor pool. If you prefer more sedate pursuits, you can simply have a wander along the park’s woodland walk. Guests staying on the pitches at Lonely Farm also have access to electric hook-ups, shower and toilet blocks, waste disposal points and fresh water points.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: The staff at Carlton mere were very helpful they called re floods. The site was conveniently placed. We met the warden by chance, when getting lost trying to find the adjacent site, he was delightful and helpful.

Disliked: Reception was closed when we arrived, and we called the mobile number to no avail, so called the reception at the neighbouring site (had their number as they’d called due to the floods the day before) The site amenities were as follows. Toilet and shower water was hot - due to lack of ventilation the condensation ran off the Tim roof, and dry clothes got wet. The shower and toilet rooms were poor in run down sheds. They were rustic to say the least and not good value for money. We have stayed on sites with cleaner and more modern facilities for the same or lesser price.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Just adored this camp site, idyllic setting, was lovely and peaceful, surrounded by frields. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful when we arrived and through out the stay. Facilities were good even having use of a microwave, toaster and kettle. Laundry room available, showers etc all clean. The site was well maintained and looked after and the pitches were well laid out. We had access to a pool and entertainment facilities, finished off with a fantastic price for the pitch with hook up. I would definitely go again and plan to return soon... had a great time .😁

Disliked: Didn't actually dislike anything. Had trouble getting wifi, however when camping l think the aim is to get away and chill.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Location. Very rural with some easy walks from the door. Good for visiting lots of local places of interest, not far off the A12, so easy to get around but far enough away not to hear the traffic noise. Good shower/toilet/kitchen facilities. Clean and fully working. Very helpful and friendly young man working on the site. We didn't use them but having the pool and restaurant facilities in the holiday park next door would definitely be a plus point for many

Disliked: Noise considerations. Being woken up at 6.50 on Monday morning by vehicles, slamming doors, loud talking and swearing was not expected and not detailed anywhere on the website. The motor home section of the site is next to a unit that is used for servicing the larger holiday park units next door and seemingly no consideration is given to the motor homes parked next to it in terms of volume control and no notification of this on arrival or in the details. Unable to complain to the site as everyone had gone by the time we got up and left. Unclear rules. It states on the website that no branded vehicles are allowed on the site. We had to bring a car with us too and the only one I have is my company car which is branded. I emailed 3 days before we arrived asking if it was ok to bring it and park it with the van and received no reply, despite chasing. When we arrived, the staff there knew nothing about the rules and were fine with it being on site and next to the van for 2 of the 3 nights. On the 3rd we were asked to move it to a hard standing pitch as apparently it wasn't allowed on the grass as it would cause ruts (despite being there for 2 nights, clear for all the staff to see). Whilst this wasn't a problem in itself, why have rules and then either not enforce them, randomly enforce them and not make staff aware of them? I do realise that this is a very minor and rather entitled whinge but if we hadn't had been given such an unexpected rude awakening on the Monday morning I probably wouldn't have mentioned it.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: First visit in two years after change of ownership. Relieved to find it's as it was - adults only, quiet and endless hot water! If you're in a motor home and if you have a pitch next to the large sheds, staff from the Carlton Meres site use these for storing linen so there may be some disturbance in the morning as they do their collections and drop offs. You do have access to the pool and facilities on the Carlton Meres site now but we didn't use them on this occasion.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Quiet, adults only site with spacious pitches Very friendly welcome by helpful staff member, who also checked the next day that everything was okay Microwave cooker, toaster and fridge freezer available to use in pot washroom. Access to club and facilities on adjacent static caravan site as part of the booking Access to two beautiful lakes, although at the time of writing, these required a day ticket to fish at a cost of £10 per day per angler for two rods Clean toilets and showers with plenty of hot water, although they are a little dated and could do with some refurbishment Nice walk to the White Horse in Rendham, which serves good food Short drive to Saxmundham and the Suffolk coast

Disliked: Nothing

Electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked: we had pitch 5 the pitch itself was fine the facility was very good the showers toilets dishwashing all clean and maintained

Disliked: no body at reception apart from young man who gave us complementary tickets for caravan site next door.and told my daughter we had pitch 5 she had to go and find the pitch herself and come back and take us to the pitch. During our stay reception was never open. unfortunately our stay was ruined by lack of information and by the time we had figured every thing out at the campsite and local amenities our stay was over.

Local attractions

For days at the beach, take to the coast at Aldeburgh (20 minutes’ drive) and treat yourself to fish and chips, or head to cute little Southwold (25 minutes) for retro amusements at the Under the Pier Show on the pier. From there, hop on the ferry across the River Blyth to Walberswick (25 minutes) for a drink in the pub or to spot wading birds among its heathlands and marshes. Other day trips that should bring a smile to your faces include all the animal encounters at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (40 minutes), Banham Zoological Gardens (an hour) for its penguins and sea lions, or the truck safaris across the savannah at Africa Alive Zoological Reserve (half an hour). Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (45 minutes) is another good bet, with water rides and rollercoasters galore. Mix things up a bit by introducing some history into your lives: at Framlingham Castle (15 minutes) you can walk the defence walls, and at Orford Castle (25 minutes) there are displays of local Roman finds and audio tours of the castle’s tangle of passageways.
