Stansfield Hall Woodlands is a peaceful piece of Suffolk countryside which is also a working farm. The site has individual, wild camping pitches in the woods. This is basic camping with compost toilets and a firepit, for which a small amount of free wood is provided. Any additional wood can be purchased from the farm. The farm has lots going on: over 60 types of birds have been identified here and there are badgers, deer (muntjac and roe), toads, frogs, newts, water voles, and dragonflies. The pub is just a few minutes' drive away and is where you will check in. Water, wifi and other facilities are here if needed; guests also have a 10% discount on food at the pub. The site is suitable for individuals, families and larger groups.

Route directions

From the A143 (Bury Road, connecting Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds); take the turning at the Wickhambrook crossroad, away from the Plumbers Arms (a former pub on the corner). Follow this road through Denston, past Assington Green, and round to the right, down into Stansfield. It's a long, thin village, so go down the hill, up the hill past the village hall turning, and the Compasses is on the right-hand side.
