  • Pristine pods among spectacular views in East Riding of Yorkshire
  • Half an hour's drive from the Yorkshire coast and an hour from York
  • Right on the Minster Way and National Cycle Route 1 trails
Bordered by the National Cycle Route 1 and the Minster Way walking trail, the small and splendid glamping site of Bracken Burrows is surrounded by an excellent range of outdoorsy options around the Yorkshire Wolds and the East Riding of Yorkshire, and is within easy reach of the sights and lights of historic York. The sands and sea of the Yorkshire coast are about half an hour's drive from here. Your friendly hosts Lucy and Nick (and their five pups) have sourced their modern pods locally and kitted them out in splendid style: each has its own ensuite plus a kitchenette with a microwave, a fridge, a hob, a coffee machine and a kettle. Outside there’s also a private decked area with outdoor seating and a firepit for barbecue feasts (logs are available on site). Plus, you’ll be chuffed to hear that there’s no need to lug your bedding or towels along, because these are supplied as standard. To get your rural retreat off to a cracking start, you can order breakfast, dinner and barbecue hampers filled with locally produced goodies, and there’s even a hamper for grownups packed with luxury treats such as prosecco, locally made cheeses, chutneys and pâtés, fruity nibbles and slippers (because you’ll be doing a lot of lounging around while you’re here, obvs). You should probably use the barbecue at least once, but for when you’ve had enough of tending hot coals, the local area has a good collection of excellent inns serving guest ales and good gastropub grub. Dogs are welcome on site and can stay in the pods if you and they so wish – or they can spend their sleepytime in the cosy stable block nearby.

Muffin camping pod

Liked: Really lovely place, peaceful location, generously equipped pod with nice beds. The owner was really friendly and helpful.

Disliked: I'm not the best sleeper and wish I could have made it a bit darker inside when the sun came up. Wasn't too sure where to plug the kettle in.. but that was probably just me missing a socket!

Oso camping pod

Liked: Had a lovely couple of nights here. Pods were well equipped, clean and spacious - the site is remote, great place to switch off and relax. Lovely sunset views. Nick was very pleasant and accommodating and we appreciated the app which provided us with a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding areas - plenty to see and do. (We would especially recommend The Ship Inn, Sewerby. Dog friendly, lovely food and great music)

Muffin camping pod

Liked: This was our first glamping experience as a family and we loved it. The pod itself was fab- compact but really well appointed. The shower was excellent. We stayed for two nights and used the firepit bbq both nights. The pod was situated in a large field with stunning views and the owners were friendly and helpful. We will definitely endeavour to return.

Local attractions

Bracken Burrows is right next to National Cycle Route 1 as well as the Minster Way, very easily sorting cycling and hiking and cycling days. The site is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire Wolds and the Yorkshire Moors; the market towns of Driffield and Beverley are a short drive away, and a little further afield is the humongously historic walled city of York, famed for housing northern Europe’s biggest Gothic cathedral and the fab Jorvik Viking Centre. Head seaward to reach the Yorkshire coast: Bridlington is a tiptop spot for sampling freshly caught seafood and taking trips on the land train or the Bridlington Eye, as well as visits to see the waxworks at the Beside The Seaside Experience Museum. The Flamborough Head promontory, a few miles north along the coastline, has two ancient lighthouses to explore and is brimming with cliffside hiking, sea canoeing (for experienced canoeists) and birdwatching. Several more miles along the coast lies Whitby, where the famed Whitby Goth Weekend takes place twice yearly, and whale watching trips in the North Sea depart from Brewery Steps at Whitby Harbour between April and October. Other nearby attractions include Williams Den, North Cave, Let Loose in Beverley and Flamingo Land.
