  • Family-focused holiday park in a scenic countryside setting
  • On-site fishing lake and loads of activities to entertain the kids
  • Close to plenty to do on the East and North Yorkshire coasts
Skip to see – and stay at – this holiday park on the sandy East Yorkshire coast: it's likely you’ll love it. Skipsea Sands Holiday Park is in a scenic countryside and village setting near Driffield, but is only a couple of miles from the stretch of Yorkshire coastline between Flamborough Head to Spurn Point – with Bridlington in between – and within easy driving distance of several sandy beaches. It has its own fishing lake and lots of activities and entertainment to float any individual boat. Guests can be occupied day and night should they so wish: kids can work off energy at the adventure playground, chase a shuttlecock/football or rollerblade around the massive sports hall, before cooling off at the waterjets of the indoor pool, or going along to one of the many organised activities for all ages such as dance, football, water games and a club for the under-fives. There’s a small charge to use the sports hall and for a couple of other activities like ten-pin bowling and the intriguingly named aqua jets, but all other activities are free. Elsewhere on site, bigger guests have access to the well-equipped park gym, while all ages can pile into the Pavilion family clubhouse for drinks and snacks; there are two other bars on site, as well as The Sands diner with restaurant and takeaway. Evenings are properly covered with a range of glitzy entertainment from live music to family shows. Prefer to breeze gently through your hols rather than get involved in too much activity? A Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are on site to bubble placidly at too, all included in your pitch fee.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Our camping plot was a great place. My children loved that they could go over to the park and kept them occupied for ages. Price was brilliant.

Disliked: No faults at all, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Reception staff helpful. Location to access some coastal areas. Filey, Scarborough, Bridlington, Hornsea, Flamborough and Bempton Cliffs all in driving distance.

Disliked: Stayed here years ago and enjoyed it. It is now under new ownership and maintenance is required, The site is tired. Showers were always cold. Food in bar was poor quality and expensive. Mass produced ready meals are not to my taste. I found the meals in the bar to be tasteless and very high in calories, over 1000kcal for adult portion of spagetti bolangase or chicken curry.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: We paid £19 for a 1 night stay which I felt was a bargain for what you get - grass electric pitch, reasonable touring facilities, a short walk to a beach (if you clamber down the banking), plenty on site to keep children entertained, swimming pool, choice of food / drink venues, and location is excellent - near plenty of seaside towns. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly.

Disliked: Wash-up area in the touring facilities needs some care - U-bend was loose and water was leaking onto the floor. When we stayed there was a group of lads nearby with junk / beer cans / rubbish lying around, they then left their pitch in a complete mess (abandoned BBQs etc), obviously not Park Dean's fault although perhaps some occasional checks of the touring area would help.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Easy access to local area and different activities. The shows for the young children are really good. (Starland shows) Most staff are friendly and helpful. Pitches for tents are spacious enough room for our 8 man tent, porch and space to park the car at the side.

Disliked: The area for tents and campers is very much the forgotten part. Despite regular cleaning the toilets and showers still looked dirty. Hot water was hard to come by you have to run all hot taps to get hot water. Lots of damage from previous guests. People on a family site smoking weed, the bin wagon is on site before 7am. Cars including staff travel above the recommended speed limit, worrying when there is kids about. The swimming pool changing room roof leaked water when it rained and the toilets stank and need some care. There is a online booking system for swimming is no good if booking through pitches up as you can book through parkdean 6 weeks in advance so swimming was all booked just have to hope there is space to walk in.

Local attractions

The East and North Yorkshire coast is most visitors’ first stop, from the gannets gabbing at Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs to the seaside shenanigans and surfing of Scarborough. If it’s raining, take the kids to Terror Tower: its three floors’ worthy of grisly special effects should silence even the most horrifying sprog. Flit to fab Filey for five miles of beach, its funfair and the start of the Cleveland Way, and nearby Bridlington for the Bird of Prey and Animal Park and Bondville Model Village. Further along the coast, Goths and others love lovely Whitby; have fish and chips at the Magpie café after an afternoon seeing Whitby Abbey and the replica of HMS Endeavour. Inland yields loads to do too, with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Park both within driving distance; as it’s Yorkshire, you’ll find stately pads, historic houses and museums of all bents easily accessible too. A good option for a city day trip is lovely York, about an hour’s drive away.
