  • Activity-packed glamping site in the North Yorkshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Lightwater Valley and the Yorkshire Dales
  • Dog-friendly site with on-site pub and communal campfires
Can’t decide between rural activities and much-needed relaxation for your next hols? At Camp Katur you don’t have to – it’s got the best of both at its rural spot on the Camp Hill estate, 15 minutes' drive from Bedale. There’s a fab assortment of country activities and cultural pursuits to get involved in around the area during stays at this North Yorkshire glamping site (actually, glamping village might be more apt, as it’s huge – 250 acres, to be precise). Jam-packed days mean hungry stomachs, so come evening, make use of the large clay pizza oven or communal kitchen hut (with gas cookers and a good stack of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans). Then settle around the communal campfires for chats and a tune or two (blankets are provided for cosy alfresco evenings). Also on site are toilet and shower blocks, hot and cold running water and free wifi by reception. In keeping with the site's eco-friendly ethics, communal areas are lit up by solar-powered lamps.

Local attractions

The Thorp Perrow Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre and Big Sheep Little Cow farm attraction are both around 15 minutes' drive away to entertain animal-mad guests. For some more extreme thrills, Lightwater Valley Theme Park (20 minutes) has plenty of rides to suit all ages. Kids (and big kids) can also blow off steam at The Forbidden Corner (40 minutes), which has a labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, statues and buildings to explore, all set within a four-acre garden. For something a bit calmer, Ripon Spa Gardens (20 minutes) is a pretty park for a long walk, or try the spectacular gardens at Newby Hall & Gardens (half an hour), along with the Georgian house, teddy bear and doll exhibits, a kids’ playground and mini railway. Throw a bit of culture into the mix with a visit to Fountains Abbey (half an hour) to admire the ruined – but well-preserved – Cistercian monastery. In terms of natural creations, marvel at the balancing rock formation Brimham Rocks (40 minutes) or head out for a hike in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (around 20 minutes away).
