Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pub onbsite was warm and welcoming.

Disliked: Pitches where very soggy due to rain and not very well marked. Facilities were a good standard and clean. Need a car because no walks or cycling routes in the area and reception never mentioned anything about the area when we booked in.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: quiet location

Disliked: Too far away from any local towns/villages. Showers quite basic with lights on a sensor that went out while showering and wouldn't come back on! No soap for handwashing after toilet visit. No plugs in sink for shaving purposes. No tv signal.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely location, nice access to local area. Good facilities with decent loo and shower blocks

Disliked: Sadly on our visit the campsite was plagued with unruly children. Kids riding around on push bikes and abandoning them where ever. I had to get out of the car in order to move them off the road. Their parents seem to completely see the weekend as a reason to abandon their parentental responsibilities and get drunk. Resulting in loud music in the evenings while there little darlings would run around causing havoc. I was really disappointed that the site management where not more proactive but perhaps they were not experiencing what was happening in the touring caravan area away from the statics. We made the most of it but it wasn't great. The made a mess of the loo block on the Saturday afternoon and additional result was no hot water. Lovely site by they need to eject the trash that don't respect the camp site and other users

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Akebar Park. We will definitely be returning next year. The recreation area was great. We played lawn bowls and football on the field. Crazy golf was free so we had multiple games. Park was very clean and tidy. Hot water in the bathroom. Friendly staff, very helpful.

Disliked: Pitch wasn’t level, it’s a good job we had levelling blocks. Although there was a shop on site, it was only open from 10-2 during the week. There was also a wait for food in the restaurant and service was slow.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Something for all ages of our family! The enclosed dog area is an excellent bonus to the site, good facilities a great play-park and pub on site too that serves food and drinks. Great little shop onsite which sells everything you need and quite reasonably priced too! Great location just a few miles from the A1. Pleasant staff especially the gent that works in the shop!

Disliked: Touring pitches aren’t overly level but managed fine with levelling ramps! The children appear to enjoy playing around the toilet block area which in itself is not a problem at all but the mess they left inside the toilet block was terrible there was mud all over the place on one occasion. Pub prices are slightly high for drinks but very enjoyable none of the less! Very little phone signal and poor wifi connection very intermittent and when connected 1-2bars at best.

Local attractions

Explore abbeys, halls and castles, pick up local produce at farmers' markets (pop into reception on site to find out details), or take off into the countryside for days of hiking, biking and fishing: all are easily done from Akebar Park. Head to Helmsley and East Witton for Rievaulx and Jervaulx abbeys, both founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks and both among the wealthiest abbeys in the land until being dissolved by the egotistical Henry VIII. Jervaulx Abbey was also the place where Wensleydale cheese originated way back in 1150; see how it's made and have a sample at the Wensleydale Creamery and Visitor Centre near Hawes, then follow up with a sweet treat at the Brymor Dairy ice cream parlour near Jervaulx Abbey. At Leyburn town, find more cheese and heaps of other tasty things at the farmers' market on the fourth Saturday of every month, and heaps of tasteful bits and pieces at its weekly Friday market, antiques centre and art and jewellery galleries. Leyburn's fitness and squash centre allows guests and also has a pool. On the outskirts of town, permit the kids a day out among the chambers, tunnels and many hidden surprises at fabulously odd The Forbidden Corner in Tupgill Park.
