Pitch up in Pickering at Oak Tree Farm Park to be in a prime place for pottering around some of the best parts of North Yorkshire… villages, markets, Dalby Forest and first-rate walking and cycling routes are all close by. Oak Tree Farm is a small and welcoming site on a working farm with friendly free-range hens and a couple of pigs and goats (which the kids are welcome to interact with). Bags of feed are available to buy for a small cost if you'd like to feed the farm animals, such as goats, alpacas and geese. For your own feeding and watering, grab the fresh coffee that's available to takeaway on weekends and during school holidays between 8.30am and 10am. The farm has a toilet block, showers and dishwashing facilities: a £1 honesty box contribution is used for the showers. Oak Tree Farm Park welcomes families and couples of all ages, but doesn't accept group bookings or group multiple bookings.

Local attractions

Most tastes and budgets are catered for in the shops, cafés, restaurants and bars of nearby Pickering, a town that's also home to the highly popular North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the start of its 18-mile run through the North York Moors National Park and the neighbouring villages of Goathland and Grosmont. Trains run daily from the beginning of April to the end of October. From Grosmont, flit to the seaside resort of gothtastic Whitby for Whitby Abbey, sailing, surfing and diving, the Whitby Regatta and award-winning fish and chips at the Magpie Café. Dalby Forest is within a 10-minute drive of Oak Tree Farm Park and is filled with activities like paintballing, adventure courses, walking and cycling routes, and treetop adventuring at Go Ape. There's also a visitor centre with stacks of organised events and activities, and plenty of picnic areas for forest-based food. Also locally, markets selling local produce of high quality are in Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and Malton.

Oak Tree 2 bedroom safari tent (hot tub)

Liked: My star rating is due to the stay being cut very short. Nothing to do with the venue itself. It was a Lovely location and a lovely safari tent. Unfortunately due to severe winds (amber warnings) we had to leave as no one could settle, as the tent was shaking due to the weather. This was obviously nothing to do with the venue and couldn’t be helped by the owners. All communication was fantastic with the owners and they were very helpful. Just a huge shame we only got to spend a couple hours there. 😢

Disliked: 47mph wind

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Quiet, clean and well located for the North Yorkshire Moors, especially if you plan to use the NYMR steam railway to explore the area. Friendly little goats make pleasant neighbours.

Disliked: No bin at the washing up stand, which can be awkward.

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked: Really lovely, green open space. Pegs are spacious and the grounds are kept clean and tidy. Lots of animals - alpacas, goats, chickens, pony that you can walk around the perimeter of and pet. Showers hot and powerful - £1 honesty box, 2x wash up areas and a communal fridge and freezer. Site owner lovely, dead helpful. Can hire fire pit and logs for a tenner which was a lovely addition when it gets chilly on a night. We went into Whitby for the day which was about a 40 min drive but next time we will explore Pickering and the castle/railway which is not far away at all! It’s really hard to find family friendly sites which are not quiet. This defo ticks the box! Will defo return.
