  • Enclosed, sheltered site in an orchard opposite a Yorkshire Dales farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Reeth village and 35 minutes to Richmond
  • Private footpath to the River Swale runs right from the park
Looking out over green fields grazed on by sheep, and with River Swale walks right from the grounds – how smashing is Hazel Brow Farm Campsite for a serene stay? With just a handful of pitches, this site in the Yorkshire Dales National Park is also peaceful; situated in the valley bottom below the village, it's surrounded by calm countryside and just across the river from the Swale Trail walking and cycling route (bikes can be hired less than 10 minutes' drive away). If you’re planning to give your hiking boots a good workout, set forth on the site’s private footpath running down to the River Swale or climb the nearby hills through lush fields for memorable views over Swaledale. You could also stroll to the village of Gunnerside, a couple of miles west, for its traditional pub and a café – both serving food – or roam to Reeth, four miles to the east, again following the river. Set in a kind of natural amphitheatre, this settlement is where Swaledale meets up with Arkengarthdale and is known for having (yet more) excellent views. Facilities back at Hazel Brow include a toilet block and a mains water supply. The access lane is quite steep and narrow and, although there is flat space when you reach the bottom, it’s not accessible enough for large, A-class motorhomes – please bear this in mind when booking.

Field non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great site plenty of kitchen facilities, fridge freezer. However there are no showering facilities - just sinks to wash. Good location to use as a base for hiking and cycling in area. Short walk to the Punch Bowl Inn and a short ride away to the Dales Bike Centre. Around 30mins ride to Reefe the nearest bit of civilisation (note a bit of a hilly ride! Especially coming out of Reefe back to the site!) Recommended if you just need somewhere to get your head down with no thrills camping for the night with essential facilizes. Stress free communications with the owner with minimal contact so you are left to your own devices. Mobile phone signal is practically non-existent which is great for going off grid and getting a break - there is however WiFi in the social area (toilet/kitchen block) for those who can't leave their digital life behind!

Disliked: Nothing! Does what it says on the tin. Great little site.

Field non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Location - Simplicity - Flat field - close to wild swimming - easy access to walks - bonus of free Wi-Fi at the farm buildings (not at camping field) - low number of available pitches (though on Saturday night it was allot busier and everyone in the field camping nobody in the farm camping location)

Field non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Very basic site which meant it was very quiet. Stunning views and not pitched on top of each other due to site not over booking. Perfect for small camper van or tent if you don’t need lots of facilities. Definitely visit again.

Disliked: Access is a little tricky as stated in booking info…..definitely not for larger campers

From the manager: Yes sorry we thought we had made it clear our site is not ideal for large campers. We will review our listing, thank you for letting us know.

Local attractions

Roam around Richmond (35 minutes’ drive away) to investigate the ruins of Easby Abbey, along with a Norman-era castle and the Green Howards Regimental Museum – or splurge on locally-produced snacks at the cobbled market square for snacks while walking through nearby woodland. If that whets your appetite for more artisan treats, aim for the Wensleydale Creamery (35 minutes), where you can learn about the history of Yorkshire cheese and, more importantly, pick up masses of the stuff to gorge on. When you’re full to the brim with dairy products, another wander’s in order to work it all off – amble to a waterfall such as Aysgarth Falls (half an hour), then move over to the Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden close by for – you guessed it – a little look at an Edwardian rock garden. If inclement weather is making outdoor expeditions too tricky, find shelter in the 14th-century ramparts of Bolton Castle (25 minutes).
