Action! Whether whirling around on site or plunging into the fathoms of fab seaside things to do nearby, a stay at Cayton Bay Holiday Park near Scarborough is a buzzing option for spirited sorts: it might even – finally – tire the kids out… All ages can look lively with the vast range of things to do at this emphatically family-friendly park, which can see the family getting sprightly around the fountains and waterjets of the indoor pool, aiming to be a little crazy at crazy golf or bouncing around on the volleyball, netball and all-weather multisports court among loads more. Or explore off site instead: Cayton Bay Holiday Park is four and a half miles from the attractions, amusements and beach of Scarborough’s South Bay, a trifling 10 minutes’ walk from the wide sweep and sprightly surf of comely Cayton Bay, and a few miles from the very viewsome Filey-to-Scarborough stretch of the nearby Cleveland Way. Cayton Bay Holiday Park is quick-fire for the kids too, with an active array of options for toddlers to teens including the Starland Krew kids’ clubs, Pipsqueak's Mousehouse for under-fives, street dancing, cheerleading, archery and splashing around back in the pool at a deep scope of water activities. You can be busy indoors or out here from dawn to dusk – and then beyond with theme nights, movie nights, quizzes and the cabaret, disco, dancing and other entertainment at the roomy Oasis Showbar (with lots of opps for the audience to join in with the merriment). Food is served up at the Boathouse Restaurant which also does takeaway, and there’s a supermarket and off-licence to stock up on your own supplies.

Local attractions

The beaut beach of Cayton Bay is within walking distance and has a surf school that caters to all levels and offers board and wetsuit hire. Like most of this part of Yorkshire coast, this beach is an eggs-cellent spot for birdwatching, and fossil hunters find rich pickings here too in the form of gastropods, starfish and coral. Ornithologists should also flutter along the coast to Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs to gaze at the only colony of gannets on the British mainland, viewable even on wet days via the CCTV at the Flamborough Head visitor centre. North Yorkshire’s seaside capital Scarborough is a quick drive from Cayton Bay Holiday Park – or catch a bus from the stop 10 minutes’ walk from the site. Inland from here is equally action-packed: the sporty options and more stunning scenery of the North Moors National Park, the historical highlights of grand old York, and, if you travel a little further, roaming around the history sites, caving and watersports of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
