  • Adults-only site in the grounds of a 19th-century farmhouse
  • Secluded and with spectacular views
  • Pub a short walk away via a public footpath
An adults-only campsite near Scarborough? What a rare breed. Set on the grounds of a 19th-century farmhouse, Studley House Farm is a secluded caravan park just for grownups, who come here for superior views, a most deserved break, and proximity to the Yorkshire coast, Dalby Forest, Pickering, York, the North York Moors National Park… Pitches in an apple orchard sound jolly pip-pip too: those at Studley House Farm are a stroll from the cleanly-kept site amenities of hot showers, toilets, laundry room and chemical disposal point. A pub, the Grapes Inn, is a short walk away via the public footpath running beside the site. The farm is next to the village of Ebberston – do try the bakery – and has walks aplenty in the surrounds: use the site stile to get to the public footpath for perfect Yorkshire countryside walks with your pooch.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Really nice site in a small village off the main road. Andrew (owner) and his son James were really helpful, lending us local maps etc Local pub (Grapes Inn) very friendly and set up a big screen for the England rugby game.

Electric gravel touring caravan pitch

Liked: Lovely and friendly staff on site...very helpful... Quiet small site...in a beautiful area. Large level pitches with ehu.

Disliked: Personally.....no heating in showers/toilet block...so we didn't use the showers. The pot washing hot water run cold after a small amount used. This was quite disappointing. We understand that the owners are looking at putting in a new shower block over the winter.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely little site with large pitches set in a cute little village with loads of honesty boxes for fresh eggs and produce. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We loved our stay here as it was so peaceful and relaxing. There is one male and one female toilet and one unisex shower - there is also a toilet and info station at the entrance - but that is plenty for a site this size. It is a short walk to the local pub.

Electric gravel touring caravan pitch

Liked: Brilliant site can't fault it at all management dealt with an issue we had straight away, it's located far enough away from things for it to be silent at night but within 15min of Pickering and 20min of Scarborough

Disliked: Only possible thing to comment on was there only being one shower but for the size of the site it was manageable

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: A quite peaceful site.

Disliked: The toilet facilities, whilst functional and clean could be improved for more privacy and the quantity available is not enough for the number of pitches using them.

Liked: Lovely clean quiet site. Plenty of space between pitches. Owner of venue very helpful and helped to site the caravan.

Electric gravel touring caravan pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet site set in beautiful countryside. Andy is very friendly and helpful. Very reasonable priced washing machine. Situated in ideal position to explore the local area including Whitby and Scarborough. Would throughly recommend the site.

Disliked: The only problem for me was the lack of a disabled shower. It’s a shame and I fully understand why sites do not have them due to cost but it means that people with a disability are missing out on a beautiful site.

Electric gravel touring caravan pitch

Liked: The site overall was kept lovely, clean, tidy and level. It was very quiet. A short walk to the nearest pub through a couple of fields. Owner was very pleasant and helpful. All amenities close at hand. Would visit again, but for a shorter period.

Disliked: Could have done with at least another toilet and shower, as there is only 1 of each and at times there was a queue. Toilet seat came off in ladies and stayed like it for 2 days. WiFi wasn't very good at all.

Local attractions

Elsewhere, Studley House Farm is primely placed for quite a lot of North Yorkshire highlights, including trying your crafty hand at Ebberston's The Workshop to bring home a souvenir with a difference, or tackling golf, fishing and horse riding in the immediate area. Coastwards, Scarborough has quite a few grownup pursuits like Italian gardens, the Rotunda Museum, the Stephen Joseph Theatre and bagging fresh Yorkshire seafood in its fish market; Filey Brigg is a birdwatching and wildlife haven with hikes on the Cleveland Way, and Bridlington's birds – all 200,000 or so of them – can be found screeching their way around the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs. Nearby Dalby Forest on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park is a Forestry Commission-run setting with acres' worth of bike rides and hikes as well as regular events. (The bike trails here range from easy to extreme to severe, so see what your legs can handle.) More rides and hikes as well as climbing, caving and weeks' worth more are in the rest of the national park to the north. And then to the market town of Pickering, a short drive from base and the home of Pickering Castle and the Beck Isle Museum as well as the starting point for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on its exceedingly scenic 18-mile puff from here to Grosmont. A bit further afield, ancient and walled York is full of old sites, museums, historic winding streets and well-priced restaurants.
