  • Purpose-built, family-run site in Herriot country
  • Amenities in a luxury block with underfloor heating
  • Well-placed for Yorkshire attractions but peaceful and quiet
What a popular place in a lovely location this is. Hillside Caravan Park is a purpose-built, family-run site that guests return to over and over, for the helpful family welcome, the sparklingly clean amenities, and the closeness to the Yorkshire countryside, the East Yorkshire coast, old market towns, the city of York and the walks of Herriot country. Those excellent amenities at Hillside are housed in a luxury block with underfloor heating; the site also has a large play area for children, a food shop, a washing-up area and wifi. And although it's well placed to get to all the above Yorkshire attractions, Hillside is a peaceful park where at night all you'll hear is the occasional squeak of a bat and all you'll see outside is the stars way way above: there are reasons why this park is so popular...

Local attractions

As is always the case in Yorkshire, piles of attractions and activities are all around for all ages and tastes. Hillside Caravan Park is in the land made famous by country vet James Herriot, and the World of James Herriot is in his former home and surgery in the nearby town of Thirsk. Also in Thirsk, you could canter towards Thirsk Racecourse, along the Thirsk Furniture Trail or around the Thirsk and Northallerton Golf Club. More golf is at Romanby Golf and Country Club a short distance away. Historyheads have Fountains Abbey, Mount Grace Priory, Newby Hall, the buildings of York and piles of other North Yorkshire piles to investigate, along with the county's many museums such as the National Rail Museum in York. For the kids, Monk Park Farm, Flamingo Land and the amusement park Lightwater Valley should amuse them no end and they'll probably also like a day at Thirsk's Boltby Pony Trekking. Older kids and teens might also go for aiming at some clay target shooting at Thimble Shooting Ground.
