  • A 95-acre woodland site a short drive from the A171
  • Easy access to the stunning Yorkshire coast, moors and Goathland
  • Two-mile nature trail with a pond and modern amenities blocks
You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil… But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that… in fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite…? It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby, and has easy access to the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands. And it's set on 95 acres of good-looking woodland, with a two-mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees and past a pond. There's also easy access for caravans and tourers. The on-site pantry shop in the reception area stocks essentials and stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch). The park also has a book exchange service. Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained toilet and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

Liked: Wonderful staff, very peaceful campsite, clean facilities and even the option to purchase dvds and books for a small donation for those rainy days when you stayed in your van, felt very safe and secure at the site

Disliked: There was nothing that I disliked

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely site, superb and very clean facilities and super friendly and helpful staff. Seeing a gap in the weather window, we decided to take a quick 3 day break and chose Ladycross. We didn't use the wi-fi as we take our own dongle on trips so cannot comment on the quality of it but it was available and that is not always the case on most sites. We loved the woodland walks and the general spaciousness of the site. Only five miles from Whitby and the coast and ideally situated for exploring the region. Will definitely stay again.

Disliked: Nothing - it was all great

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This is an excellent site. The Shower and Toilet block is exemplary and one of if not the main criteria when we book a site. The full service pitch was of a good size and the setting having woodland in and around to walk the Dog was brilliant. We found that the park and ride only a few miles away was the best way to go into Whitby itself. With the car only required for some of the fishing villages. There are a number of Pubs at Egton and Egton Bridge only a short drive away that serve wonderful food. It was actually quite a gastronomic delight. Over our 4 night stay we went to the Witching Post, the Wheatsheaf and the Horseshoe Inn and the food in each was really good. We would also have gone to the Postgate Inn but it was fully booked (so that's probably really good too).

Liked: The setting within woodlands, Toilet/shower block very clean.

Disliked: The description of a shop on site is very misleading, 2 shelves of goods within reception area. Too far from any shops, pubs and eating facilities

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. We are not a busy reception or shop but i do try and keep the basics in on 6 shelves in the shop, all the essentials for knocking up a quick tea, we have a fridge with basics in and a freezer with ice cream and other frozen essentials along with fresh eggs from our free range chucks. It may be worth all potential customers to google our location and surrounding area prior to booking as this will highlight distances to the nearest pubs and shops etc. as we are a little rural. Thank you again and your comments have been noted. regards Lisa

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch (adults only)

Liked: Site lovely and tidy and toilets and showers very clean. Site nice with plenty of trees rather than a open field.

Disliked: WiFi was only available with an extra charge. Closest toilet block was closed as low numbers on site as end of summer season.

From the manager: My apologies, we do all have our bad days, we are normally very helpful and look after all our customers as best we can, sometimes we are just so busy doing all our other jobs that we get caught unawares especially if arrivals turn up before 2pm or leave after midday, please accept my apologies for any discomfort caused.

Route directions

From Whitby Take the A171 towards Middlesborough. Please note: the A169 Whitby to Pickering northbound has steep narrow country lanes when approaching Sleights. If you are taking this road, continue on the A169 up to the roundabout. Turn left onto the A171. Danger! Do not turn left off the A169 signposted Grosmont, Egton. It is dangerously steep with narrow country lanes that drop to sea level. Follow the directions as above.
