Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Clean site with good security. Level well-spaced pitches. Very helpful staff when we had an issue with our kit.

Disliked: Arrived within the allotted timescale but no-one there to let us in on a February Monday in the dark. Eventually tracked down a mobile number and given a gate code. The time the lights stayed on in the showers could be a tad longer.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, unfortunately our site warden had to be away that night which was very unfortunate for yourselves any other time he would of been around. Our cleaners and site maintenance lads work really hard to keep it maintained and i will pass your comments on. we hope to see you again in the future

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Nice friendly welcome, reasonably level pitch, very nice site. Beautiful village, and the local pub/restaurant is a must.

Disliked: It’s not signposted, so we had a bit of trouble finding it tucked behind the church! We were told the local village didn’t want signs up, and took them down… they must prefer caravans wandering up and down trying to turn around in their streets and driveways! Poor phone signal, no WiFi.

Local attractions

To begin with caves, birds of prey or estates of old? If it’s the historical stuff you’re really into, close spots include Beningbrough Hall (20 minutes’ drive), a National Trust estate with Italian touches and great gardens for family or dog walks, or Newby Hall & Gardens (20 minutes), where there are house tours, boat trips down the river Ure and a miniature railway. In York, the National Railway Museum (half an hour) will carry on any history-themed itinerary – as will archery, canoeing or bushcraft in the grounds of Ripley Castle (half an hour), a stroll around Fountains Abbey (half an hour) or a brew in the splendid Harewood House (35 minutes). To turn your attention to the wild stuff, however, head for the York Bird of Prey Centre (20 minutes), where events take place throughout the year, or Mother Shipton's Cave and the Petrifying Wall (20 minutes) in the Royal Forest, a natural place with plenty of legends to keep things exciting.
