  • Peaceful and spacious park in the Vale of York
  • Nine miles from York via the White Rose cycle route
  • A short stroll from the country inn in the village of Alne
Picture yourself in a quintessentially English scene, basking with a drink to the pleasing thunk of leather hitting willow as you gaze out over the cricket green, followed by a relaxing stroll through gorgeous sun-dappled woods and water meadows. Should the above image capture your imagination, you'll likely approve of the setting of The Alders Caravan Park, on a working farm in the village of Alne and surrounded by North Yorkshire's gorgeous countryside. This place is a fab base for woodland walks and wildlife spotting… and of course the aforementioned cricket, which takes place on the farm. This peaceful and spacious park has been kitted out with excellent facilities, including two smart modern (and pleasingly warm) shower blocks, a roomy covered washing-up area and a launderette with washing machine, tumble dryer and iron to keep your clobber in good nick. Barbecues are welcome on site, and at their finest when accompanied by beef, lamb or free-range eggs from the site's farm shop.

Camping pod (four person)

Liked: Absolutely nothing

Disliked: The darkness, the basic faxititlys.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: It is sad that you liked absolutely nothing. We can't do much about the darkness. It happens in the countryside when the sun goes down. As for the faxtitlys (sic) they may be basic but they are kept spotlessly clean for our customers and judging from the 132 other reviews of our site they meet or exceed the expectations of the lovely people who stay with us. This is an extremely disappointing feedback given the manner in which you arrived, the foul language you used from the moment you stepped in the door and the state in which you left the area behind the pod. Given how we went out of our way to help you with your airbed and put you at ease with your fear of the dark your comments are unjust. We know that decent users of this site will judge us on our record.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very impressive, huge site but still very private, spotless shower blocks, cafe, attentive staff. Other Reviews suggest local pub more an eatery so didn't try. Walked 30 mins to Black horse at Tollerton bused it back, walked 90mins on a country lane to Easingwold bused it back. Would recommend most highly.

Disliked: No match at adjacent ( very pretty) cricket ground. Women hating local nutcase in oversized Wellys ( honest!)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks - The Blue Bell serves good food. For a pub atmosphere I would recommend The Aldwark Arms. Our cricket club match programme is online www,alnecc.co.uk so hopefully you can time your next visit for a home fixture. Fortunately the welly wearer has gone.

Excellent facilities, private shower, basin and toilet rooms.

Local attractions

In less than half an hour, guests will find all sorts of things to do: take to two wheels for a trip to York (nine miles down the White Rose Cycle Route), which is packed with brilliant stuff including the minster and Jorvik Viking Centre; steam through the North York Moors on a vintage train, or explore the wildlife and scenery of the Yorkshire Dales via Shanks' pony… Holidaymakers can revisit Brideshead at Castle Howard palace and gardens, be transported back to the sights and sounds of World War Two at the Eden Camp Museum, and take in the grand National Trust mansions of Beningbrough Hall and Nunnington Hall, or the stunning walled gardens at Helmsley. If the kids start being beastly, you can always cart them off to the Flamingo Land zoo and theme park. This being Yorkshire, you're never far from a bonny watering hole – and there are some cracking food pubs or inns nearby, including Aldwark Arms at Aldwark and The Blue Bell in Alne. Visitors can also see how the local ales are made at the Black Sheep Brewery, which naturally offers lots of samples of its award-winning brews.
