  • Peaceful adults-only touring park in rural North Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from central York; bus stop just outside
  • Woodland walk from the site to local village and tearooms
There are many things to like about The Bungalow Caravan Site – besides its charming owners Andrew and Sonia. Top of the list must surely be the location: this quiet adults-only site sits in the Ouse valley, surrounded by open countryside and yet a mere 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of York. This handy setting makes it a cinch to get out and explore the local area, whether you’re aiming to take city days, visit market towns and villages or wander through countryside (the rural ramble to the tearooms in Moreby village is particularly recommended). Getting out and about is easy even if you don’t fancy the drive: there are woodland walks to be had right by the site, and there’s a bus stop just outside where you can flag down a ride into the city. Touring pitches here are all kitted out for all-season use, and each has access to a 16-amp hookup (there are no toilets or showers though, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient on that front). Dogs are welcome on site, but they’ll need to be kept on a lead at all times.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Really enjoyed the Bungalow, beautiful clean site, great for catching the bus into York. Would definitely stay again, while other campsites had flooded due to the weather conditions, the bungalow was excellent and appeared to drain off surface water. Many thanks to the owner who was friendly and extremely helpful.. Me and my daughter loved the peace and quiet, enjoyed reading, talking and the Christmas market in York …..

Disliked: No shower/ toilet facilities although we did have these in our campervan

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: An excellent location for visiting York - bus stop right outside the gate with hourly buses into York centre. Site was great - right next to the road but it's not too busy and we weren't disturbed by traffic at all. We were met at the gate by the owner and shown to our pitch. He was very helpful and informative. We visited the York Christmas market for the day. Take a torch for when you get off the bus as its pitch black once the bus drives off - so luckily we did!! The bus driver was great - asked him to let us know when we arrived at the stop as you can't see a thing!

Liked: Well kept and managed, plenty of water a waste points around the site and a well kept Toilet Waste area. The owner is very helpfull and able to give information and guidance. There is also a cabin with lots of information about York and the surrounding area, the site has a bus stop right outside the entrance with a bus that goes into Central York (Picadilly) or you can get off and go to the Designer Village.

Liked: Location to york. Beautiful surroundings. Very friendly site owner who was welcoming and informative.

Disliked: Nothing else around unless you are on a bus which run every two hours (or a taxi) but for a location to york it is a perfect stay.

Local attractions

To get out and about locally, there’s fishing available less than half a mile away, and horse riding two miles away; you could also easily head up to Naburn Marina (three miles away), where there’s boat hire and a café, or go for a stroll around Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens (five minutes’ drive). For more rural escapades, head over to Burnby Hall Gardens (half an hour) to wander through the Victorian Garden and Secret Garden and walk by the lakes – at their very best in midsummer, when more than 100 varieties of water lilies burst into bloom. A trip on the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (40 minutes) is a splendid way to see some more of the local scenery. Up for some urban time? York (15 minutes’ drive or bus ride) is top of the list for most – for minster visits, river cruises and shopping on The Shambles – but it’s worth taking a look at Selby (15 minutes) and Leeds (40 minutes) too if you’ve got a little more time on your hands.
