  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely warm welcome on arrival as it was our first visit. The site looked well maintained as we drove down to the river to choose our touring pitch. We had 2 dogs with us and there is a fantastic field, dedicated to dogs, just over the bridge where they could run their energy off. The facilities were clean and well stocked. We will definitely stay here again.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Really enjoyed staying on the site. Nice size hard stand pitch.very clean toilets and hot water .well maintained shower block. . Separate toilet block and a kitchen/wash area....Plenty of land to walk .nice little waterfall 30min walk. Shame about the weather but it's England and it Did not stop us having a break ..... Very quite and dark on the night time which is brilliant when you want to look at the stars ...... nice little river runs around the site. Very friendly owners. Very good tv and mobile network signal.....Will be definitely returning.... ( hopefully on a seasonal)

Disliked: Not a sausage...... Enjoyed every minute

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: On arrival we were greeted by a wonderful lady, full of energy and very helpful. She directed us to our pitch which turned out to be the perfect pitch, gorgeous views and the stream running by. The site itself was quiet and very well maintained. Gorgeous waterfall walk from the site, not too far. I would highly recommend this beautiful site !

Disliked: Nothing 😊

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location, wildlife and handily next to A68. Abbey Takeaway in Jedburgh does gluten free fish and chips (and haggis) and only 20 minute drive. Microwave in kitchen area very helpful. Spacious plot next to stream with tap and picnic bench. Owners lovely people and the site was very quiet.

Disliked: Much felling of trees unfortunately leaving a patchy forest. The Kielder forest drive and some routes closed due to storm Babel. Facilities do desperately need updating.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Kielder is a working Forest ,it supplies nearly ten percent of England's timber, so they have cut some of the trees but they constantly replant. We have planted an extra 2000 trees in our dog walking fields ,this month March 24 . Unfortunately you had rather a lot of rain during your visit ,this is the wettest winter I have had here. Michael

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely site, truly a Northumberland wilderness. Lovely views and walks straight from the site. The facilities although basic were clean and well maintained. Very friendly and a warm welcome.

Disliked: The only thing that I would improve is the signage clearly indicating the location of toilet facilities, and waste disposal points.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your encouraging words, your appreciation lifts our team, especially with the constant rain depressing everyone this winter! Angela

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Quietness of the site. Plenty of dog bins. Would be good to stargaze as it’s very dark. Showers had plenty of hot water. Great phone and TV signal.

Disliked: Pitches are very narrow and muddy when wet. Toilets in touring area not open. Water in touring area not turned on. Shower block very old and cold.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Pitches muddy . It has been the wettest February,March since The flood and unfortunately during your stay it never stopped raining day or night. We have to turn off water at riverside pitches during the winter ,to prevent bursts! so far this winter. Temperatures have been plus Ten and Fourteen below . As you say ladies shower area is 20 years old but it works ,showers good pressure and Hot. Michael

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The quiet surroundings. Easy access from major roads.

Disliked: No water supply to touring pitches and to chemical waste point "until spring". Toilets in touring area also closed until spring. Zero lighting around site except at reception area. Toilets smelled awful, ladies fairly clean, gents dirty

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I wonder why you did not comment, whilst you were here? One of the team is always available. Toilets are cleaned regularly and checked every morning ,night and during the day. There is water for chemical toilet ,available at water tank. We turn water off because being high up pipes freeze. Water always available at the kitchen and top toilet area. We are bang in the middle of England's darkest skies, so try to cut light pollution as much as possible!!!

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
