  • Cosy adults-only shepherd's huts with spectacular views
  • Five minutes' drive to the Brontë Parsonage Museum
  • Just off the Pennine Way and Millennium Way
If you know your Brontë, you'll be fairly sure of what to find around Wuthering Heights Inn, a mile and a half from Haworth in West Yorkshire: remoteness, wild moors, wild hikes and scenery to write home about. (And if you don't know your Brontë, tsk; but this is the best setting in the world to read Wuthering Heights at last.) There's a pub just steps away from these tucked-away shepherd's huts. They're also easily accessible for visiting Yorkshire market towns like Skipton, Saltaire and Hebden Bridge as well as the cities of Leeds and Bradford. It's just off both the Pennine and Millennium Ways: have a wild hike while reciting the rather impassioned lines of Heathcliff. The tiny site at Wuthering Heights is hidden from view behind the inn and accessed down a flight of 30 steps; there's no vehicle access so while it's splendidly secluded and peaceful, it isn't suitable for those with mobility issues. Toilets and a shower are available 24/7, and food is served in the pub every lunchtime except Tuesday and on Thursday to Sunday evenings. Heads up, this site is completely off grid, and that means no electricity, water or sewerage capability. It does have a utility room with fridge, washing-up facilities, a radiator with drying rack, a kettle and sockets for phone charging and hairdryers. For security reasons this is kept locked, but keys are available for a £10 deposit, refundable on their return. Wuthering Heights is a peaceful place, so the team asks guests to respect fellow guests and local residents by keeping noise to a minimum.

Charlotte shepherd's hut

Liked: Loved everything. We booked in for lunch in the pub before booking in time. They told us that our shepherd hut was ready early and to just let them know when we were ready. The food was delicious 😋 highly recommend the scampi. Great facilities (lovely hot shower, 2 toilets,a fridge with a fresh bottle of milk, some butter and marmalade. A microwave, sink, toaster and kettle. Even a hairdryer and place to charge your phone). Everything was very clean and well maintained. Charlotte (our shepherd hut) was lovely. Just perfect for our weekend getaway. The sheep and lambs in the field opposite were a very nice sound to wake up to 😁. Solar lights at night that are on sensors so you can't lose your way. Great little stove with fire lighters, coal, kindling and logs supplied. Made to feel very welcome by everyone. Highly recommend for a peaceful getaway (without the kids)

Charlotte shepherd's hut

Liked: This was a return visit for us and we stayed in 'Charlotte'. Nicci and Darren were very helpful with some last minute amendments to our booking. The view from the huts is beautiful and the only noises were the newborn lambs and moorland birds. The huts are fitted out to a very high standard with lots of attention to detail. Clever use of 'drawers' under the bed together with 2 bedside cupboards means there was enough storage space. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of bedding. There was a selection of tea, coffee, biscuits etc provided together with 2 plates, bowls, mugs and glasses plus cutlery and a corkscrew. A sliced loaf and jar of cereal was also supplied in the hut. The multi-fuel stove is fantastically efficient and generates more than enough heat (wood, coal & kindling is all provided). The utility room was well equipped (kettle, microwave, fridge, double toaster, hair dryer, straighteners, shower mats & teatowels plus a drying rack) and had spare plugs for phone charging. There were also some butter portions and individual marmalade pots in the fridge. For campers/glampers, there was a dedicated toilet plus a shower room (which also has a toilet). The shower was very good with plenty of hot water. Given the very wet weather, we found the hut, utility room, shower & toilets very clean. Warm radiators in the communal areas were also very welcome. We had a tasty lunch in the pub & the Friday 'fish deal' is good quality & excellent value! Easy to walk to Top Withens directly from the pub and a few minutes drive gets you to Haworth where there is a well stocked Co-op along with all of the other attractions. There is a substantial flight of steps down to access the huts and campsite which are well lit by motion activated lights when dark. Wifi is provided outside the pub but the signal did not reach down to the huts. Limited mobile signal in the huts but enjoy the peace & quiet!

Disliked: Absolutely nothing!

Charlotte shepherd's hut

Liked: Fabulous 4night stay in one of Wuthering Heights Shepherd's Huts overlooking the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Ideally located in the grounds of the Wuthering Heights pub, Darren and Nicki (owners) were extremely welcoming as were the locals ... a true home from home. Lovely great british home cooked food served daily (except Tuesday) Fish & Chip Friday (booking recommended). Great night Thursday at the Quiz/Bingo and a lovely little supper to finish it off. We stayed in 'Charlotte', really cute and well equipped and some lovely little extra touches ... Flask, milk, bread, butter, cereal, tea/coffee, biscuits 💕 Shower/toilet facilities were great and the full equipped utility with kettle, fridge, toaster, microwave along with hairdryer and straighteners were a godsend! Fabulous location, lovely food and a war welcome ..... highly recommend ☺

Disliked: Nothing at all to dislike however, a consideration before booking needs to be given to the steps down to the huts/camping area from the pub car park where the shower/toilets and utility are located. Steps are quite steep which was not an issue for ourselves but something to bear in mind for those with limited/restricted mobility.

Emily shepherd's hut

Liked: The log burner kept the hut warm and cosy. The bed was very comfortable with lovely clean linen. It was very peaceful around the hut and the views were amazing. The small kitchen behind the pub had everything we needed for 2 nights, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Toilets were clean.

Emily shepherd's hut

Liked: The perfect cosy getaway. The owners Nicci and Darren were very helpful and welcoming. The dog friendly pub serves great food and the locals are also very friendly especially on Thursdays quiz night! The views from the hut were lovely especially the sunset which you can catch each night whilst cosying up next to your own log burning fire. There are great walks in the surrounding areas. We will definitely be back!

Local attractions

Scenery-filled hikes on the surrounding moors are minutes away from Wuthering Heights Inn, and within 45 minutes you can be at Top Withens which inspired the Brontë book. (Again, wild hikes while reciting the rather impassioned lines of Heathcliff are recommended.) Both the Pennine Way and the Millennium Way are close by, and cyclists can follow part of the Tour de France Yorkshire route through Knaresborough, Silsden, Keighley, Haworth, Hebden Bridge and Elland. Five minutes by car or 20 minutes by foot will take Brontë buffs to their former home at Haworth, now the Brontë Parsonage Museum, and to join the Keighley and Worth Valley steam train (yes, this is the one in The Railway Children) or wander up the town's cobbled main street. Hebden Bridge and its markets are also a short drive away. At the nearby World Heritage Site of Saltaire, arty sorts should like the Hockney exhibition in Salts Mill and heritage buffs the preserved mill workers' town, once a dry spot (shudder) but now with bars, bistros and shops aplenty. About 15 miles away, Skipton has access to the Yorkshire Dales and its villages, caves, spectacular scenery and miles more walks: be sure to take your copy of Wuthering Heights here too.
