  • Spectacular scenery bordering the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales
  • Five miles from the Settle to Carlisle Railway
  • Playground on site; pool, restaurant and pub nearby
It's the Lake District – and the Yorkshire Dales – so it's pretty standard that spectacular scenery is a given from and around Augill Beck Caravan Park, five miles from the historic Cumbrian town of Kirkby Stephen. Walks and bike rides are a cinch to sort from here too, in the becks and rivers around the site and in the nearby fields and woodlands: look out for the likes of red squirrels and roe deer on your way, around the park, and its wildlife pond. Accommodation on site is in smart holiday homes, set scenically among the backdrop of the fells. All have their own bathrooms, kitchens and spacious lounges with TV, Freeview and DVD player. For supplies and eats, a small shop, a fish and chip shop and a pub serving food are all under a mile away at the village of Brough.

Local attractions

Lace up your walking boots and get ready to see some species, for this is wildlife haven and walking land. You can set off straight from the site, or drive/cycle a few miles to wander the Kirkby Stephen circular walk from town or hike up the Howgill Fells and around the Eden Valley. Further afield, the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District national parks and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty will see you sorted too. One of the most famed attractions in this part of the country is the Settle to Carlisle Railway, steaming scenically through the countryside for 73 miles through remote and beaut parts of the Dales and the North Pennines. Hop on board at either Kirkby Stephen or nearby Appleby, then have an afternoon out at Carlisle, about 30 minutes away. A drive of about 40 minutes' drive will bring you to the southern waters of the Lake District National Park and the lakeside towns of Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere. You could also drive up to Ullswater and the northern lakes, for steamer cruises, the market town of Keswick (once named as the UK's most dog-friendly place, pooch fans), and have a stroll in yet more scenic surroundings at Pooley Bridge. If you're an angling type, get in touch with the Kirkby Stephen & District Angling Association before you arrive, whose seasoned members can take you out on a fishing trip on the River Eden to land a clutch of wild brown trout.

Beckside cabin (no pets)

Liked: The pod we stayed in was really nice and well equipped things like tea towels, washing up liquid, tea, coffee etc are a welcomed help! Also the welcome box was a lovely touch. Wifi worked well for us! The site was peaceful. We were fortunate enough to see the red squirrels & deer one morning! Would definitely come again.

Disliked: Site is perfect - but just a little bit too remote from anywhere so that is something to keep it mind when booking.

Warren 3 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Geweldige behulpzame beheerder.

Warren 3 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Beautiful and ultra quiet park. Great access to both lakes and dales by car. Loads of history in the area. Immaculate caravan with nice extras on arrival.

Disliked: Good to be left to it but if something was really wrong it wasn’t clear who would help us as the park warden was in holiday and didn’t get a response by email straight away for minor a query. There is a busy a road very close. Didn’t bother us being out all day. May be more of an annoyance for those spending lots of time on the park depending where you are situated.

Squirrel View 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Beautiful, clean, peaceful site. Excellent location, so many interesting places within an hours drive. The caravan was spacious, had everything provided in the kitchen, dining departments. Best of all was the very generous welcome box. The glorious weather also added to our enjoyment. Our 13 year old granddaughter also enjoyed the site.

Disliked: TV reception was a bit erratic.

Squirrel View 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Well kept area. Clean tidy and quiet. I would add referring to people saying you can hear the A66. Well yes that is because it is right next to it however it definitely is not something I really noticed. Very nice welcome box provided.

Disliked: Wi-Fi didn’t work on any device. Android, Apple or laptop. No response to email enquiry(Sent using mobile data). There was heavy plant working on extending the park, however it was during the day and we were mostly out enjoying the area.
