  • Family-friendly streamside campsite in the New Forest National Park
  • A mile from the centre of Brockenhurst; Lyndhurst 10 minutes' drive
  • Pitches by woodland, streams or with views of rolling heathland
Simple pitches and some seriously scenic surroundings… that’s the setup at Aldridge Hill Caravan and Camping Site. The vibe here is very much like wild camping, with guests able to choose from peaceful pitches among ancient woodlands, looking out over heathland or on the banks of meandering forest streams. In keeping with that protected natural environment and the idea of wild camping adventures, this is a real back to basics site that doesn’t have facilities like toilets or showers (so you’ll need to bring your own chemical toilet). Barbecues are allowed, but please note that they'll need to be designed exclusively for cooking (no firepits) and disposable barbecues are not permitted. The surrounding countryside is a patchwork of heathland, woodland and farmland, and it’s well worth exploring – you can make a start by heading out on walking trails directly from the site, and then head further afield to see more of the national park or wander along the Hampshire coast. This is a peaceful and secluded location, and it’s open to the national park so you may well be visited by its free-roaming ponies (you’ll need to keep food sealed and out of the animals’ reach, and keep yourselves at a safe distance too – they may look cuddly, but they're still wild animals and can be unpredictable). Peaceful, yes, but it’s not completely cut off at all – Aldridge Hill is a few minutes' drive/20 minutes' walk from the centre of Brockenhurst, which is home to cafés, restaurants, pubs, a well-served railway station and a bike hire shop.

Local attractions

This is a very handy location for access to walks and bike routes – and there’s bike hire close by in Brockenhurst if you need it. There’s much enjoyment to be had just meandering along the paths in the area around the campsite, but you could also set off to popular areas like Blackwater Arboretum (five minutes' drive) or Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary (15 minutes). The New Forest isn’t all about woodland, though – the national park runs right down to the coast, so you may like to include days out in Lymington (15 minutes) for sailing or boat trips, Buckler’s Hard (20 minutes) to see a well-preserved/restored shipbuilding village, or Highcliffe (20 minutes) for the castle and beach. If you’re on a family holiday, top outings nearby might include some silliness on the inflatables at New Forest Water Park (25 minutes) or an encounter with life-sized cartoon characters at Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (25 minutes).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Tranquil with great views and choice of covered or open green spaces. Will definitely be visiting again

Disliked: A bit bumpy with big pot holes on entry and the grey water emptying point could be separate from the chemical toilet point.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The location is wonderful. Just a 20 minute walk across the field to the lovely village of Brockenhust and there are some lovely dog walks (being careful of the cows, horses and nesting birds). The site is as described - no washing or toilet facilities or EHU - but that was reflected in the price. There is water and also a chemical waste point. Very friendly staff on arrival and departure. We will use it again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Arrived at the campsite and was met at the booking in office. Lovely staff, very helpful and gave us a little booklet with idea's of what to do. Found a spot next to the stream set the caravan up and started to enjoy our stay. The staff members we spoke to where all very lovely and chatty. Love Aldridge Hill been coming here scene I was a little boy myself and want to pass those memories onto to my own son. It's safe for to him play ride his bike and have fun. Lovely walks around the area with a nice walk into the village. Always a pleasure to stay here.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Quiet, clean, back to nature.

Disliked: Disappointed with lack of recycling. Just a bin for glass and one for rubbish. In this day and age, especially as New Forest orides itself on environmental issues, there should be bins for cans, cardboard/paper, food waste, glass and plastics.
