  • Family-run holiday park in a scenic setting near Sandown and Shanklin
  • Peaceful countryside setting with direct access to walking paths
  • Car-free environment with three playgrounds and a huge games field
What a peaceful place... award-winning and family-run Cheverton Copse is in a scenic rural setting, spaciously set out with mature trees and native hedging, with spectacular views of the surrounding downlands. Both Shanklin and Sandown are a mile and a half from here, and the Isle of Wight's cycling and walking routes are easily accessed from the site entrance. And if you're off to the Isle of Wight Festival or V Dub Island, both can be reached within six miles. To keep things safe for the sprogs, Cheverton is set away from the main road so kids can play freely; cars must stay in the separate car park and aren't allowed on site (trolleys are available to move your kit to your accommodation when you arrive). The park has three play areas with play equipment installed over rubber and woodchip safety surfaces, and a huge games field with a football pitch and basketball hoop. Amenities include a small launderette with three washing machines, two tumble dryers and a free ironing facility. Cheverton Copse is two minutes' drive from a supermarket and the nearest bus stop is a five-minute walk away.

Wessex 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Everything! The check in process was smooth and hassle free. The van and the site was beautifully clean and well kept. It was also really well equipped with everything we needed. Even the bedding was hotel standard and cotton. The beds were comfy and pillows excellent. Loved the location too. Watching the small air planes fly in was amazing. Supermarket nearby too. Easy on check out too, would definitely recommend.

Disliked: Only issue was WiFi but they are upfront about charges.

Wessex 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: I booked this caravan on last minute for my easter holidays along with my friends and I had no idea how it would be, but surprisingly it was more than expected. Usually during trips we have to spend lot of money for food but sometimes end up with bad experience, but this caravan stay provided with good facility for cooking including vessels and as a result our complete trip become memorable. Caravan and its surroundings was clean and everyone enjoyed, suitable for family/group of friends etc.,

Surrey 3 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Spotlessly clean and well appointed caravan. The site is traffic and dog free, which is ideal for parents/grandparents whose children/grandchildren can use the play areas safely. Very friendly staff who had obviously put a lot of thought and planning into the half-term entertainment. Morrisons and Aldi close by. Highly recommend The Fighting Cocks pub for dinner and Ritchie's Diner for breakfast (industrial estate opposite Morrisons).

Disliked: These are intended to be constructive comments, not criticisms. Although we are grandparents, we are reasonably trim and fit, but we found the loo in the caravan a bit cramped. The clubhouse could really do with extending to at least 50% of its current size. We were very lucky with the weather during our stay, but in wet weather, the lack of footpath access to the caravans could be problematic.

Local attractions

Piles of Isle of Wight pursuits are within five to 10 minutes' drive of here, including Sandown Zoo, The Garlic Farm and the Robin Hill Country Park (don't be fooled by the name: it's a fab theme park). Arreton Barns Craft Village, with shops, pubs, exhibitions and a brass rubbing centre, is also within 10 minutes. If you'd rather see it all by air (but of course), a grass aerodrome is next to the park for pleasure flights in an aeroplane or helicopter. No? The island's extensive network of bridleways and footpaths can be accessed directly from the park. Also Wightly famed nearby is Dinosaur Isle a couple of miles away, the comely Isle of Wight Steam Railway, amusing oneself on the pier at Shanklin Bay, meeting the red squirrels of Shanklin Chine, or shooting along to the amusement park in a Victorian garden of Blackgang Chine. Fishing, horse riding and golf are close by too; a sports centre with two indoor pools is just over a mile away.
