  • Scenic location in the Elham valley, seven miles from Canterbury
  • In the North Downs, a 12-mile drive from the Channel Tunnel
  • Easy access to the M20 and the A2
Ever been to the Elham valley? It's a right pretty part of the North Downs, made up of a chalk valley and set between Folkestone and Canterbury: the 22.5-mile Elham Valley Way is right pretty and right recommended too. If you're seeking a stay around these parts (also recommended, to put up tired feet), have a look at Goldpark Leisure right in the valley and surrounded by the striking scenery for which the valley is renowned. It's about seven miles from Folkestone and Canterbury and under 10 from Dover's white cliffs, or you could go on further adventures as it's also only 12 miles from the Channel Tunnel… The site has an amenities building with a toilet and shower room also suitable for disabled guests, a washing-up area and a reception with helpful info on the local area. Leave the car behind once you get here: the bus stop outside the Goldpark Leisure gate has services to take adventurers to both the Kent settlements nearby. If you do want to drive, there's easy access from the site to the M20 and the A2.

Liked: Nothing at all. I felt I was ripped off. Left a bad taste at the start of my holiday

Disliked: There is nothing to recommend this site at all. The site is un kept. The facilities is bare concrete and dirty with poor lighting. Greeted by a half naked man. Reception is a hovel with old furniture lying outside the door. Greatly over priced. The worst value for a "Camp Site" I have ever experienced. I booked many camps with Pitchup on a recent road trip to Norway and all the other camps was Great and all was cheaper than this camp. I clicked 1 to rate Goldpark only because that is the lowest on your scale it should have been -10

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Absolutely nothing I liked about this place - if you want the traveller / gypsy experience try stopping here

Disliked: Everything that is listed about the things you can't do the residents that live on this site do - dangerous dog breeds raoming free , dog poo all around the site , 80% of the site is inhabited by travellers (gypsies) grass is very long toilets are run down and far end of site looks like a rubbish dump / breakers yard - never worth £30 a night terrible place

Local attractions

The chalk downlands of the Elham valley are the suggested starting point for hikes around the area; if you're feeling energetic, make it your mission to do the whole 22.5-mile route of the Elham Valley Way, starting at Hythe and finishing, like certain pilgrims, at Canterbury Cathedral. Rest up when you arrive then investigate the cathedral further: Canterbury's most famed landmark is the oldest cathedral in England and is of course where Chaucer's lot amused themselves in quarantine by telling many tales. The Canterbury Tales is an award-winning attraction in the city (yes, yes, as well as a book); after that, wander around the shops and pubs before an evening in one of Canterbury's restaurants. And then perhaps another pub… Also have a wander around the 90 acres of ancient parkland of nearby Howletts Zoo Park, where animals to see include lions, tigers, rhinos and elephants.
