Welsummer camping is a family-run campsite providing a natural and sustainable environment for traditional campers, young and old alike. The two small meadows have pitches with space for standard and family tents with an allocated campfire spot. The meadows are surrounded by native hedges and border the woodland making them feel personal and protected. The third two-acre field offers a vast playing area for spontaneous rounders and cricket games along with the pre-erected bell tent huddle at one end and parking away from the pitches at the other. The woodland area has pitches suitable for a more rugged camping atmosphere. The woods have a couple of paths to wander. A direct access to the local footpath network provides hours of walking on the Greensand Ridge. We are trying to preserve the woodland's eco-system and natural atmosphere - we strictly forbid guests from collecting wood. Wood for fires is sold onsite. Our organic garden and free range chickens provide fresh eggs and seasonal produce for sale most days in the small shop which also sells basics like milk, cheese and sometimes homemade bread or something hot out the oven on weekends. Hot coffee and tea is also available. Water for showers, basins and washing-up sinks is heated by a woodburning stove burning locally sourced wood. We do insist on waste sorting and on a general respect of natural resources and the countryside.

Local attractions

Close by Leeds Castle is a worthy day out with plenty do do for young and old and regular events for special occasions. The Knights Realm play area will amuse the little ones and Go Ape can be booked to exhilarate the big! The gardens are beautiful and there are plenty of snacks and food available. The local villages have plenty of small shops with country fare for your campfire feasts and pretty boutiques to pass a few hours off site. Bodiam National Trust Castle is another great day out with its stunning castle and moat - but combine it with a steam train ride from Tenterden and finish off with a pub meal on the way back and you've made everyone happy! Cranbrook Union Mill is a proper working mill and despite its tricky opening hours is well worth the trip. Beaches are less than an hour away and in hot weather Camber Sands is a good long days fun. Sea Salter, Whitstable, Margate and Broadstairs are all great seasides and within an hour's drive from Welsummer.
