The Nut Plat Retreat is a holiday home from home for those who relish the idea of sleeping in the Great British Countryside in 'Ransoms', our bijou and boutique Living Van. Set in the beautiful Kent Countryside, the accommodation is a 1904 living van kitted out to satisfy all your needs for a luxury weekend (or longer!) break. We've tried to supply you with everything we think you'll need for a peaceful rural retreat. The only neighbours you'll have here are our pet lambs. There is a full size double bed in the van, a fold down table and chairs and games and a pack of cards to keep you entertained in the evening. Kent is known as the Garden of England for good reason and The Nut Plat in Roughway is a historic ‘orchard’ of ancient cob nut trees. Running alongside the River Bourne in the Garden of England, the Nut Plat is on the edge of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We think the hamlet of Roughway is unique – less than an hour from the centre of London and yet you can hardly hear a car let alone a train and you rarely ever hear an aeroplane (unless it’s using the open sky for acrobatics). Our own orphan lambs help keep the grass down by grazing the plat and we keep cattle and chickens here too. We also have horses and cattle on our land on the other side of Roughway Lane which visitors are welcome to say hello to. We hope we've thought of everything you'll need for a relaxing and refreshing short break and have provided everything we think is an essential plus some luxuries and also a range of extras that you might want Everything we do is designed to have as small an impact on the local environment as possible and we’ll try and encourage our visitors to share this ethos and leave only footprints and take only memories…

Local attractions

Less than an hour from the centre of London, the Nut Plat retreat is truly in the Garden of england with Royal Tunbridge Wells 40 minutes away and the market towns of Sevenoaks and West Malling less than half an hour. The best way to enjoy the rural idyll is to just kick back and relax on the banks of the river Bourne which borders your own patch of paradise. If you're feeling energetic, the Greensand Way is a delightful footpath running, as it's name suggests, along the greensand way - a generally dry route across the county. There are very many other footpaths in the locality and we can recommend several circular routes from the Retreat. The local pub is a five minute walk away, with two others a brisk half hour away and a third less than a mile away. If visiting country houses is your thing, we've Knole House at Sevenoaks, Ightham Mote and Penshurst place nearby and further afield are the lovely gardens at Sissinghurst or Pashley manor
