  • Small, family-oriented glamping site in the South Downs National Park
  • A 20-minute drive to the South Downs Way; 35 minutes from the coast
  • Free breakfast hamper, barbecue, firepit and a communal kitchen area
How does a hilltop farm sound? One with peaceful bell tents, surrounded by the ancient woodland and sloping farmland of the South Downs National Park? If that gets a ‘pretty sweet’ from you, make your way to Wakestone and Wild Glamping. Surrounded by Sites of Special Scientific Interest, this small, family-oriented glamping site is 20 minutes’ drive away from the South Downs Way and 35 minutes from the coast. For more hikes, the 64-mile Serpent Trail is within walking distance of the site. If you like, stop by one of the two local pubs or the Indian restaurant in Petworth, which are all within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. It’s only a 10-minute drive to kayak hire on the river Arun and 20 minutes to the riverside town of Arundel too, which has shops, restaurants and a castle. These West Sussex bell tents each have a kingsize bed and two singles, excellent for a family of four. As a family-oriented site kept small and free from pets, this should be quite the peaceful getaway indeed (and there’s the option to book all the site out if you want privacy, of course). Cosy comforts in the tents include Egyptian cotton sheets and linen, real sheepskin rugs, floor cushions for sitting down, natural jute rugs and Bohemian décor like plants. There’s also a barbecue, utensils, a bag of charcoal, a firepit with a stack of seasoned wood (subject to a fair usage policy) and even an LED storm lantern which doubles up as an electronic device charger. Foodwise, dig into the free breakfast hamper, which has eggs, milk, sourdough bread, butter, jam and granola, all sourced from local farms. The covered communal kitchen area also has tea, ground coffee, sugar and other morning staples, as well as a gas cooking hob, pots, pans and cooking essentials (even chilli flakes).

Bell tent

Liked: New glamping site of just three bell tents, beautiful and comfortable. Lovely young family running the site, friendly and on hand if needed. Hamper of milk, bread, butter etc. included making it possible to wake up in the morning with breakfast right there. Local recommendations made our long weekend stay even better.
